Technical Question about recording from Ps3 to dvd

Hi I have been trying to find an answer to this question but to no avail,
here we go

if i connect my ps3 to a 2 in to one hdmi in reverse, so its a 1 to 2

and connect 1 of the outputs to my tv via hdmi

and the 2nd output to a dvd recorder using a hdmi to component cable

could i record my game play?

ps3 > hdmi splitter (in reverse) >signal split

1st signal goes to tv via hdmi cable

2nd signal goes to dvd recorder (with component input) via hdmi to component cable

Could this work?

does the hdmi take input though? or is the single out for output only, if not then in theory it should work.

HDMI will try and use HDCP and also does a whole bunch of handshaking which i can't imagine would work - so you probably wouldn't be able to split a HDMI output to 2 inputs that way?

I think the answer depends on whether your TV does support HDCP. If it does, the signal will be encrypted - so the component cable won't work.
