"Technics confirm production of 1200s and 1210s to cease"

Bad decision!.....

"After rumours emerged last month that Technics owner Panasonic were planning to can the iconic 1210 and 1200 turntables, it has now been confirmed.

Read a statement: “Panasonic has confirmed that it ceased the production of its Technics-branded analogue turntables this autumn.

“After more than 35 years as a leading manufacturer of analogue turntables, Panasonic has regretfully taken the decision to leave this market. However, Panasonic will continue to sell headphones under the Technics brand.

“We are sure that retailers and consumers will understand that our product range has to reflect the accelerating transformation of the entire audio market from analogue to digital.

“In addition, the number of component suppliers serving the analogue market has dwindled in recent years and we brought forward the decision to leave the market rather than risk being unable to fulfil future orders because of a lack of parts.”

Sales obviously fell to a point not feasible to produce them anymore. A company doesn't manufacture products for a loss however loved that product may be.

Yes fair point, but eventually it will mean the end to the turntable in clubland, not good news for certain genres, like drum n bass

They can't go digital then? It would mean second hand sales market would be very healthy.

Well they have also, but vinyl is still very popular in dnb, even with the top djs.
Very true, good condition decks will be worth loads! But eventually even they will die.

Potential investment: Buy a brand new pair now and keep em boxed!

Can a 1210 die? I know I've got a mid 1980's pair still going strong...

My oh, had his cleaned and rewired about 8 months ago and he was told by the shop owner to keep them as they will be worth a small fortune in the condition they are in (still boxed etc etc)
I wish he would bloody get rid of them, as he spends a fortune on records lol!

I've heard they last decades from my DJ wannabe friends. Possible good investment then.

It will still get produced, just means many big dnb djs will eventually have to move on to cds/mp3s. But like afew people have said, these decks can last decades!
