Hi all

Just invested in a Techwood LCD & am pretty chuffed with what I got for my cash (£385 delivered after Quidco).

A few reviews have said that the settings need tweaking from those out of the box.

I'm not sure which settings are best & am hoping someone with more Telly-technical knowledge would be able to give some advice.

Cheers

Cheers for that!

Interesting read but unfortunately nothing specific.

Why dont you just ring Techwood and ask them ?

Mainly because my grasp of Taiwanese is limited and I think they would probably just give me the default settings (which seem to be set very high).

The question is academic now anyway `cos the telly has died on me and wont come out of standby. :-(

Woolies are coming to pick it up tomorrow.

I think its time to have a word with John Lewis about what they can offer (& take advantage of their 5 year warranty - once bitten.....)

Try price matching John Lewis with Empire Direct........

For instance JL should pricematch the price (plus delivery) of the Tosh 37c3030db £625 or £465 for the 32" version......though to be honest I'd wait for another 10% code from Empire and just get the 37" from them for £560 (picked up plus £9.50 quidco) with free dvd player.

Cheers for that advice.

I was thinking of pricematching the Panasonic TX32LMD70 with Richer Sounds as I've read good things about that model.

Which way would you go?

Sorry to hear about the Techwoo - must be a bit gutted....

Must admit I've been thinking about the LMD70. Three things make me hesitate about it. One is that its not as sleek looking as the Tosh (imo), it apparently uses the same panel as the Tosh and its a bit more expensive. I suspect performance is very similar but the Tosh just looks sleeker and is cheaper. If performance was significantly better then I would go for the Panasonic but I'm not sure it is......

There is a price matching thread on the AV forums http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262433
This is useful for tips for stores to price match JL with.

I would try price matching the 32c3030d with Empire Direct and price matching the Panasonic with Richer Sounds and possibly Sound & Vision http://www.soundandvisiononline.co.uk/moreinfo/index.asp?product_id=12712
But check the sound and vision instore price first.

You will need to provide (to JL) addresses of the stores where you have seen them cheaper.

If Empire bring back their 10% discount (seems to be every few months) and you live near an Empire store you can pick up the 32" Tosh for £405 (plus quidco) and 3 yr warranty for £20 (this assumes they don't up the price). Cheapest JL will price match is £470 ED shop price £450 plus £20 delivery charge. Least thats what they did for me!!

Is it worth the extra £45 for an additional 2 yrs warranty?

If you price match with Richer Sounds JL may add the £60 delivery charge to the Richer Sounds store price. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't - seems to depend on the JL store.....

Just got home & checked my emails!

JL have agreed to match Richer sounds for the Panasonic @ £599 (I asked them last week & forgot about it!)

I agree about the sleekness of the Panasonic but this does seem to be a reasonable deal given the 5 yr warranty.

Just a bit loath to go back to 32" from the 37" although it is going to be a much better panel I suppose.

Even taking into account the 5 yr warranty its an okayish price. You can get the tx32lmd70 for £499 from PC World with free delivery. You get 2.5% quidco and there is a 5% nhs discount code - this brings it down to about £463. I'm sure someone on HDUK can pm you the nhs code if you need it ;-)
If JL have price matched the tx32lxd70 for £599 then that would certainly be a good deal.

Cheers for advice Gari

Ended up going for the Samsung LE37R87BDX & managed to wangle it for £599 from local John Lewis which given the 5 year warranty Im pretty chuffed with!

Seems to have reasonable reviews & I get to stick with a 37"er (ooer missus).
