Hi,

I've got a Sony RDR-HX910 which i'd like to make multi-regional. Can anyone tell me the best way to do it.

I've done some googles but it talks about having a 'freeforall remote' i've got a URC22B free remote but can't figure out how to make it work on the dvd player.

Thanks for your help x

Some Sonys are notoriously awkward and difficult to hack and it looks like yours is one of them.

It looks like you need a Kameleon 3 (URC8203)

Instructions here

There is also a mention that the Sony RDR-HXD910 which I assume is the same model as yours can also be hacked with a Palm T3, details here

From Barneydog's link.

"First you have to change the command mode of your sony recorder to "DVD1" (page 23 in the manual, also change it on the sony remote for the recorder, because "DVD3" is set by default).

With a OneForAll remote controle (Kameleon3 URC8203):

To prepare the Remote:
1. Press DVD.
2. Press the Magic button (hat) and hold until the rabbit comes out.
3. Press 0533 (works only for the command mode "DVD1")
--> the IR blinks twice.
Now you can control the recorder.

Codes for the buttons 1..5(KeyMagic):
1. Press the Magic button and hold until the rabbit comes out.
2. Press 994.
3. Press DVD.
4. Press Magic button(only once, short)
5. Press 001891 (you might have to Press the SCROLL button between 9 and 1(5*2,5*3,1*4,9*5).
Repeat 1..5 with 002552,000953, 002214 and 000795 at step 5.

Reprogram your DVD recorder:
1. Remove disk and put player on standby
2. Press 1,2,3,4,5 (pause briefly between each button and
make sure LED of remote flashes)
--> The Player should turn on! Wait a few seconds.

3. Press 1,2,3,4,5 again (pause briefly between each button andmake sure LED of remote flashes)
--> The player shuts down and "Timer OK" is displayed!
--> your player is now codefree!

I successfully applied this method to my Sony RDR-HX910!:-)
"

I think you use the universal remotes ability to assign functions to specific keys to allow you to use buttons only found on Sony engineers remotes to access hidden menus and change things like region.

ungreat - I found that on one of the posts, so am I correct in thinking I need to buy one of those remotes? It's around £36, can I just buy a hack cd instead?

No such thing as a hack cd.
You've two options, the remote, yes you need to buy an all for one remote and programme it as above. The other option is a chip hack (have a chip connected to one of the boards inside, but that's very expensive and not really worth the effort

I think you may also be able to get "pre-programmed" hack remotes where you point it at your player press the button and it goes through the steps needed.

I vaguely remember seeing one of these when I was trying to get a TV with a free Sony player (missed out by a day) and did a little research before hand.

Yes you can, I remember using my brothers Sony Commander (I think that what it was called) to hack someones ages ago, but they are very expensive.

As Ungreat says you can buy cheaper ones, there are some on E-bay, check item No. 370130209545 for £13.58 delivered or search for hack remote, most of them can be returned to the seller after use for a part refund so would be a bit cheaper

I have never used one of these so have no idea of there effectiveness but they are cheaper than a Kameleon.
