TJDOYLES is a new irish bar, that has just opened for business in Sunderland (we like the Irish)

However the site is not that good. http://www.tjdoyles.com/

I just want feedback on the site (which I never done btw), and what improvements, things you would like to see/look for, if you were browsing the site.

Cheers Peeps

I know, tell me about it. Wanna air your views. Do you happen to know where I can get a Pub/Irish Themed Template From? (not please dont say "the internet, or google") Rep will be left in abundance! ?

It's hard to know where to start, the current site is badly laid out, terrible mixture of colours and has no flow to it at all.

Basically you want to scrap that site and start again from scratch, with some of the same items, but laid out in a much nicer style.

If you have never created a website before, then it is much easier to create a more professional looking site if you use a cms software like Drupal (www.drupal.org), Joomla (http://www.joomla.org/) or even Wordpress.

With very little knowledge or skill you can customise these pre-built sites in to something much prettier.

Things that would be good on a pub site:

- Whats on - guide to events happening in the pub
- Meet them team - Page about the staff
- Location - Directions to the pub and things in the surrounding area
- History - A little history about the pub
- forum - Depending on how busy the pub is then a forum can be a good idea as it allows regulars a place to chat and mess around when not at the pub
- Team info - If the pub has any Football, hockey teams etc

I didn't think the site was that bad, but the pictures are awful - they make the pub look dark and manky, although it probably it much brighter in real life. The next time i'm in Sunderlad I'd definately pop in (I'm Irish and best mates with a Mackem)

As to templates, here are a few examples:
http://templates.entheosweb.com/template_number/15693.asp
http://graphics.elysiumgates.com/hstpat.html

or look at some existing websites like this one!

I seen this one earlier, and not bad for around £45, but aint that good a designer, so unless it was easy to edit, thats me out. in fact, thats a really really good template. Does anyone know where I can get it for *ahem* free :whistling:

The ones in the photo gallery don't look too bad, although the first one and a couple of others have obviously been mangled a bit (look at those jaggies on the beams!) The ones on the contact and accomodation pages definitely need redoing through - the contact page one probably flat out needs replacing, you probably can't do much with that even if you've got the original.

I would start by going through the pages and removing all those things that scream amatuer - the different coloured backgrounds on each page, the centered text, the inconsistant menu bar (decide on whether you want a single word or a small phrase, don't mix the two) and so on.

If you are asking an honest opinion... the site is pants.

That's a ridiculous website, and one of the main reasons I no longer web design. Amount of cowboys out there selling this kind of carp. Everyone thinks they can design a website, and end up knicking templates online and still managing to fowl them up!

Didn't get a chance to see the old one so nothing to compare against, but I would imagine this one is much better judging by what has been said of the old one.

I have noticed that you have spelt accommodation wrong (common error, have even seen huge signs on hotels with it spelt wrong!)

A few places, on the intro page and on your menu at the top.

Probably worth doing a spell check and change them all that way.

its hard when your looking at it 8 hrs a day for the past 4 days. all the words become one!

No probs, although in firefox the accommodation in the menu is now showing weird for me?

Also just noticed the lunch menu this one...

Breat of Chicken with Bacon

Probably worth a spellcheck on the whole document to pick up typos, always worth it.
#25
Please tell me you run the site on this.
