The Longer version. I've a doc I need to edit and print for the boss for a meeting in the morning. It was prepared by another guy on the team whose gone on holiday.
I can't get into it because the morons passworded it (even though he knew it was needed for tomorrow and he wouldn't be here !!!).
I've just googled this and there a way of loading it in to Notepad and getting the pw that but I think we're using a newer version of Word as it not showing up.

Anyone have any tips ? Or do I just let my mate take the heat when he gets back ??

theres no way of doing it unless you either

phone the fella for the password

or

Use a password finder (these can take days to run through and generally dont find the password)

He's in Spain with his mobile off (I've tried).

This only works if the password protects from changes only. If the password is needed for opening the files, this will not work.

- Open MS Word with a new/blank page
- Click "Insert" in the menu , then "File" browse for your password protected doc select "Insert" & "Insert" password protected doc into your new/blank doc

You could also try to scan/OCR it if you have an old print out of it.

Hope this helps

Yoiu can try opening Word and then choose Open (browse to the doc). Sometimes works depending on the level of protection, otherwise it cannot be done.
