My "nearly" 15 year old son has had an outbreak of zits over the past few days, and has a humongous one on his nose. He is very conscious of them as he hasnt really suffered from them in the past. His skincare regime is pretty good for a lad, he exfoliates in the evening and uses a foaming wash in the morning.
I dont think the spots are bad enough to warrent a trip to the docs just yet, plus the spot cream they tend to prescribe can be quite strong.
Do any of you have any recommendations of over the counter creams or any homemade remedies I could introduce him to?

a trip to the doctors is worth it, there are tablets that can be prescribed and help alot even for mild cases of spots

Agreed. I had spots every now and then on the most annoying places, but just left them and they eventually went away on their own. I find it kinda weird for a teenage boy especially who is 14 years old to exfoliate daily.

lol at the males who don't groom themselves, crusty's keep away

Too much exfoliating removes the top layer of skin and can lead to further infection as it cant grow back that quickly, only exfoliate 2/3 times a week, especially for a young lad

Avoid anything that dries the skin such as soap and such like,a decent face wash will help

Squeezing them can leave them still infected and can cause scaring in the long run

Moisturising daily wil help keep his skin from drying up and should help with the old spots.

Would only go to a dermatologist if its worse than a normal teenage kid or its really causing him problems

PM me if you need anything else,as I have worked in this industry for years:thumbsup:

hey bitsey

if its only 3 spots its perfectly normal, not very nice for him though obv.

toothpaste left on a spot overnight helps a lot, also tell him not to keep touching them with greasy hands - if he keeps getting bad spots then his diet could be looked at.

everyone gets spots at some time so as long as it isnt full blown acne then its nothing to worry about.

(i have a 15 year old son,so i know) :-D

My friends son is goin through this at the mo and he has been using a product called ..............Snails Gel!

Its working brilliantly for him.........this is a bit about it and can be bought in Holland & Barrett

Snail Gel contains secretions from the snail Helix Aspersa Muller. Snail handlers noticed how quickly minor cuts healed without infections or scars, as well as the unusual softness of their hands. In this secretion is allantion that helps regenerate the snail's shell and skin when it is injured and it does the same thing for human skin.

Skin Benefits & Properties Heals and Rejuvenates Softens Nourishes Soothes Protects

Snail Gel is the best solution for adult and teen acne(pimples, zits, blackheads), acne scars, age spots, Rosacea, razor burn and skin irritations. People with sensitive skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tones have had excellent results using Snail Gel to leave skin soft healthy and soothed.

Teatree is really good, and it is a natural product. Boots, Superdrug & The Body Shop all stock it, but try to get as near to 100% teatree as you can afford. Also QVC sell Australian Body Care teatree products which are excellent, these are also available on Ebay occasionally. We use the Australian Body Care Spot Stick which is a mini roll-on to treat individual spots. Stings on contact but it really does work.

Alison on QVC also recommends the teatree shampoo they sell as if men/boys have a spotty back/chest and are washing their hair in the shower, their back/chest etc is also getting the benefit of the teatree to some extent.

Good luck.

whats with the problem with a young lad exfoliating? Its a normal shop bought face wash with exfoliating properties, we dont have soap in the house apart from the liquid form for hand washing.

Thanks for the helpful replies and Boothy I will get him to use the exfoliating face wash twice a week from now on x

'Cause his only 14, what standards does he have to keep at that age :p Also exfoliating 7 days a week is a little too much over the top, if ever I'd say only exfoliate when you start to get spots I guess. By the way how often does he have a shower?

Pour frezzing cold water over his face while he is sleeping.

This wont do anything, but its funny

try this for him if its not too pricey:

much better than any over the counter chemist stuff

http://www.salonskincare.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/4240

Its a company I used to work with in the USA,

We used to see very good results, def needs to cut down the exfoliation though,he probably does it cause it makes him feel like he is scrubbing his face but too much is a really bad thing, especially for young skin

:)ignore the haters, they are normally the ones who look 20 years older than they are due to not looking after themselves when they were younger:)
