A teenager who struck a baby on the head is being sought by police in County Durham.
The child was being carried by its mother when the incident took place outside the Bishop Auckland Asda store.
A group of youngsters blocked their way into the Newgate entrance, and a girl, aged between 16 and 19, slapped the 22-week-old across the back of the head.
The group then laughed and walked off. Police have only now released details of the incident on 31 January.
A police spokesman said it was witnessed by a number of members of the public who offered support to the mother afterwards and he appealed for them to come forward.
He added that the baby was unhurt thanks in part to the winter clothing it was wearing.
The girl is described as 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall and of skinny build with a thin face and dark eye make-up.
She had distinctive, almost waist-length, dark hair and was wearing dark, tight jeans and short grey-blue jacket.
