The fiancee and I should be getting the keys to our new property in the next 2-3 weeks, and we have ordered our sofa today from DFS but the lead time is 11 weeks. Thus we shall be sofa-less for about 8 weeks...so ideas needed for cheap but half ok comfort as well!

I have seen some faux leather bean chairs which don't look too bad like the ones in the link/photo below, but just an idea so far!

are comfy and will lead a second life when you want to sit in the garden, and fold away to store

asda i think have them in under a tenner

You could check out freecycle nearer the time you move.

Just the cost of getting the sofa/s back to your own place.

Hopefully could get rid of them afterwards through freecycle too.

inflatable sofa from argos ????

They look really bad! I've seen one on amazon which rather then being plastic has got a material on it which doesnt look too bad, prices seem around £50 for those.

Well see we are buying a garden set anyway, so have thought about buying a slightly better one with nicer seats and use them. We have a balcony, thus probably wouldnt use those sort of chairs...although they are really comfy for what they are!

True, but yeah no car either, thus van hire bumps up the price...and that is if I can hire as it is as I am only 22.

Hehe, yeah just looked after the suggestion from argos.

in all seriousness why not look into a small sofa bed if you have the room to keep it afterwards (study/spare room etc) or one of those inflatable beds, so they have a function after yr sofa's arrive too

Ikea's an idea

No spare room, no spare space! Even a inflatable sofabed would be of no use as we wouldnt have the space to use it when our sofa arrives. Otherwise we would have just probably bought a inflatable sofabed.

You sound like that insurance advert! No!
This is true, but still got to sit on them for at least 2 months! But then could be worth a try and see if they arent too bad to sit on first. if not then no major loss at £6!

Our bed? It is a king size bed! It is huge! And dont want the castor wheels (or cups) ruining the flooring in the living room.
The thing is I wouldnt care too much if it was for a week or two, but 11 weeks for a sofa
Of course your not, unless the photos of you that I've seen aren't really of you!

:friends:

my sofa's took about the same so I sympathise but then I did still have my old ones to sit on :-D
i'm sure theres a home staging company in london, you could hire a sofa from them ?
#20
You can rent a sofa, but it's bloomin' expensive, and you#;ll be looking at a few hundred quid for that time.

I bought a 2 seater sofa, off eBay, in good condition, for £24. Maybe see if there is one in your area you can slip the guy £20 to deliver for you.
#21
I would say, definitely garden furniture, or put your bed (castor cups or not - put on wooden planks!) in the living room until the sofa arrives.

Yeah I ordered one for my Mum which is similar to the one we have ordered and hers took 12 weeks, so it was expected. But we couldnt order the sofa until we had at least had our formal mortgage offer, and ideally the memorandum of sale issued.

Ouch! Not spending that on renting one! Yeah Ill check out the ebay

Yeah think the garden one might be an idea still. As above the bed is too big really for the living room, and not ideally something we wish to do either.

Could you not just get a cheapo second hand one from a charity place, chuck a throw over it whilst in use...you can then donate it back when you get the posh one.......and all will be good in the world

Yeah suppose on the day we move everything we will be hiring a van anyway, so could see what the local charity shops have and pick it up on the day we move in. I am sure if I pay for it they will hold it for me as well until moving day.
Not sure what charity shop are like in the area, as when I lived in Sussex the cheapest one was like £100 from the local charity shop!

But I think this does sound hell of an idea. Do you know if most/some charity shops will pick the sofa up though?
#25
most charity shops do pick up

have a peep on freecycle as well if you have a van,as some people just want rid

there also a few sofa beds for £100 in Argos.....you could probably resell it for £80 after use

It is the trying to sell it afterwards that I worry about though as we literally have no where to store it!
Although £100 from argos gets you a sofa bed...thus probably easier to sell then a normal sofa as well.

I had same problem many moons ago and I bought one of these to keep me going until my sofa arrived. I only had about a three week wait though:

Six quid can't go wrong ha ha

Yeah its been suggested already and they said it terrible, and ours is for 2months thereabouts!
I think we might just settle for buying a slightly better patio set for our balcony and use the chairs inside.

Also none in stock in Coventry, SE London, or West Sussex, so no use anyway. Although Homebase have a similar thing for £10...so could get it from there if so.
