Tent help!

Wonder if anyone out there can help.......

Go Outdoors are putting the 8-man Corado 8 tent on sale for £299 on the 12th July and this seems like a fantastic bargain as it currently sells at over £400.

We are a family of 4 and obviously don't actually need such a mammoth but size is important in the world of tents and so this is the one we are looking at!!

Does anyone have a Corado 8 that can advise me on just how massive they are (we have only seen a 6-man erected) and also are there any problems getting campsites that will allow such a large tent?

That's all.....Thanks!!!!

xx

Go outdoors don't sell tents greater than 7m squared which is the largest pitch size. I bought the sahara 6 when it was 200 pounds and did not have too much difficulty getting a pitch....all I have to do now is find out how to put it up:)

7m squared is not big at all - the Corado 8 is nearly 8 metres long and 5m wide - can't remember maths GCSE but isn't that 40m squared?

If you have the space to store and transport it, then go for it.

Our tent can take 9 but we have only ever had 6 in it. Our family, max 3 of us have stayed in it but we always have our friends and friends kids who tag along. Great fun.

Never had a problem booking on campsites becasue we always book well in advance....we always go with a large group anyway - 5-6 large tents.

we have a Coleman Magellan 9 man tent for the 3 (soon to be 4) of us - again we don't 'need' a tent this big if it was just to sleep in but with the little ones it's very useful to have somewhere dry they can play when it rains.

I've never had problems with camp sites but we tend to goto sites that are pretty much just fields with a toilet so we can have a fire.

We have friends who have had trouble with more organised sites - only one has refused entry though because they were fully booked so didn't have room for them to take up two pitches - just make sure you tell them when you book it and some will charge you for two pitches which is fair enough really and a small price to pay for the extra room we take up with the bigger tents.

Ukcampsite.co.uk has a great section on tent reviews, includes owner's pictures too

It's 2.2m tall, by 8m wide and 5m long says the site there, and the best thing to do to give you a rough feel without needing to leave the house is to get a measuring tape and some jumpers, and try and make a mockup of it in your garden or your livingroom, if either's big enough. They might not be - 8m*5m is huuuuuuuge. To put in in perspective, see these two buses? Were it not for the shape of the roof, you could fit them side-by-side inside the tent.

I don't know about potential ampsite difficulties, but something worth pointing out is that it weighs 26KG. My guitar amp weighs 26KG, and it's horrible.

we go camping for 2 weeks every yr with 2 other families and we all have huge tents,if you go to municipal sites they dont mind what size tent you have,we have a vango diablo 9 for our family of 4 plus 1 dog and the other 2 families have gelert meridian 10s,if you going away for more than a couple of days you want to be comfortable,if i needed a new tent i would buy that 1

Go for it. I got the Kalahari 10 from Go Outdoors last year for £179-00.

The extra space is a God send. Haven't had any problems with getting a pitch

7m squared is 49 square metres.
8m X 5m is 40 square meteres, NOT 40m squared. ( 40m squared is 1600 square metres. )
