Tesco Bakery and Hidden Extras......

We had shopping delivered from Tesco yesterday, which included 2 packets of finger rolls from the bakery. Looking at them this morning there are at least 15 small brown flies in each (UNOPENED) packet! I can only assume that the packets contained fly lava as the flies were not there yesterday and the packs are unopened..

I am absolutely disgusted, but also worried. We were going to eat those yesterday and this could have made me extremely ill as the medication I am on leave me with little immunity!

I wont be buying ANYTHING from tesco bakery in future, and thought that I would post on here to warn others of what had happened

#3
Take them back and tell Tesco you are going to call enviromental health.
#4
Called them and had them refunded, but thats not really the point! I dont care about £0.70! I care about the fact that I could of ended up in hospital because of them!

Anyone know an email address I can write to?

or of course you could just go to the papers. Especially what happened with Morrisons recently! you could be quids in!
#6
Keep them and call environmental health!
[admin]#7
^^^^^That's what I'd do too.
#8
As you say 70p is not the point. Waste of time calling CS. Write a letter to HQ (one page) explain and demand an explanation as to why this happened (send a copy to enviromental health) Will take a bit of your time but not as much as wasting time with CS etc
#10
That's certainly one way to get things flying off the shelves...
#11

Thanks, but I have nothing to do with the sun
#12
i dont buy anything from tesco bakery either, after watching one bakery worker coughing and sneezing, without even covering their face!! made me feel sick.
#13
CS are ****, if i had taken your call i would have reported it to my team leader.

Phone CS up and immediatly ask to speak to a team leader, once the team leader is on tell them how disgusted you are with what you have just received, explain in depth what you have got.
They will prob ask you to take a photo and send the photo in and a letter, altho im sure you will have a £20 gift card sent out to you as a GOGW (maybe more)
Really say you've been made sick, say about your medication etc etc. the worse you tell the team leader the more they will send you .
Apart from that going to the papers or enviromental health will be another resort altho im pretty sure you prob wont want to do that, im sure your just disgusted about whats happened and not about how much you will get back from this.
Say to the team leader that you remember seeing this sort of thing on the tv from Tesco but you didnt think it was actualy true.

Once you have reported it to a team leader they will prob ask you for the details on the packaging, special code numbers that can trace back to where it was made and packaged, the company who did this will get there wrists slapped severely.
Altho you wont actualy hear back from whats happened im afraid.

Remember tho, the finger rolls might not have been made in the store they might have been elsehwere, if it is the store they were made in then the whole bakery staff are heading for a showdown with the store manager.

I really hope you took photos with the receipt print out beside it.

That picture with complaint to management should = free shopping for life imo vs. the bad PR.

Correct, I dont really want to go to the newspapers etc, thats just not me, but at the same time I do want them to realise how serious this is

Thanks for the advice everyone
#16
Called them up, wont put me through to a team leader or anyone, said that the person who spoke to me this morning has logged the complaint and refunded the product, and that is all that can be done, even by a team leader.

Explained that it could have made me seriously ill and it obviously points to the bakery being dirty, and I wanted assurance that it wouldnt happen again - just got told again that the complaint had been logged and nothing else could be done
#17
phone them up again and ask to speak to a team leader, i cant stress that enough Kelly.
Forget the monkeys speak to the organ grinder, if the CS person says sorry....stop them in there tracks and say well a refund of 0.70 is not good enough.

dont let them off Kelly !

yup. remember to take their name, so when you do get through, you can let that team leader know who wasn't doing their job on the phone too.
#19
I would definitely get environmental health involved now.

My mum once found a fly in a tin of tuna. Go thtem involved, took photos, sent off the tin etc. Things like this need to be investigated to prevent them from happening to anyone else.

Very good point ^^^ when you ask for there name they can only give out their first name but they cant give out their surname for security reasons
if they say that then ask who there team leader is.

They dont put them through, they have to walk around to there own specially designated team leader and ask the to come around to their own seat, the person who took your call originally will listen in on another headset.
#21
Still cant get to speak to a team leader, just keep being told that I have been refunded, the complaint has been logged, and that is all that the team leader can do.

Havent even had an apology, and they dont seem bothered that this could have put me in hospital, and its pure luck that we didnt eat them!
#22
Did you get the persons name that you spoke to?

right i have a trick up my sleeve, are you calling customer services?

if you are dont call them, call GHS grocery home shopping and do what i have just said above

Every team is made up of about 12-15 team members plus your team leader, there is loads of team leaders in the building!!

there just trying to fob you off im afraid, when you call dont even give the account number etc just as ask to speak to a TL
#23
It would be interesting to know that if a complaint is made and all they can do is refund you and lodge the complaint without further active investigation is actually allowed in the food industry?

In fact it could be said that unless Tesco seeks active independent investigation from a Gov agency they're being negligent towards public health.

I personally would find out which branch does your internet orders.

Also if possible find out which bakery does that product.

Find out via www.direct.gov.uk the local councils for the branch and bakery and mention that you are preparing to lodge a complaint with both Local Authorities for negligent sales and endangerment to the public while mentiong Department of Trade and Industry as well as the Health and Safety Executive.

Tesco fobbing you off like that is pretty backward really.

No, have been calling GHS

The last person I spoke to read what was on screen (reading to herself but outloud) and all it said was that 2 packs of finger rolls had flies on, refund given.

I am getting nowhere with Tesco and they are making me feel pretty bad about ringing, like I am wasting their time.

Considering we spend about £80 a week with Tesco, you would think they would do something about it. Looks like sainsburys will be getting our business in future
#25
Your not wasting there time, thats there job.

honestly there is loads of people in that place and Cardiff (if you get cardiff hang up lol its a new centre and there **** at their job).

I cant believe there doing this to you, now listen to me Kelly.....

You have to be forcefull....dont let them get away with "its been logged" really get to them and pretend your extremely unhappy on the phone.

I cant stress enough that you must say "I want to speak to a team leader please" and thats all you say, if they ask what its about say "its an urgent matter that you dont think its being dealt with efficiently"

When the TL comes on the phone explain that your not happy with what has been refunded to you and your extremely unhappy that you havent even had an apology etc etc, you can say what i said above.

BE FORCEFULL and pretend your ANGRY !!

Totally agree - this shouldn't be about getting Tesco to cough up extra dough (sorry couldn't resist) and I don't think that was Kelly's gripe. I think it was about getting Tesco's to take it seriously.

If the packet is still completely sealed contact environmental health. The fact that these are contaminated may point to a serious problem. What else might they be contaminated with? how many other people might be affected?

Environmental health are the best qualified to decide whether this is a serious issue or not...

Said that I wanted to speak to a team leader, told them that I wasnt happy with the way that my complaint had been dealt with, all I keep being told is that they wont put me through to a team leader as they have followed protocol and there is nothing else that a team leader can do (I told them fine, but I want a team leader to tell me that - was once again refused!)

I am forcefull on the phone anyway, and dont have to pretend to be unhappy! I am furious but also upset, as I know how serious this could have been due to my immunity.

Exactly, its not about the money, its about the fact that they dont even seem bothered, I havent even had an apology, and as it was contaminated with fly lava rather than flies, other customers could actually eat the product without realising the problem (as we nearly did!)

You CAN speak to a team leader, thats why there in there!!

one other trick is this,

first ask for there name and the name of there team leader, then if they still refuse to get a team leader say you know these calls are being recorded and your not following a customers request.
Explain if this isnt dealt with now i will call back and and another team leader will trace your call and find out you havent done your job properly.

SHA BANG !!!!

Unfortunately I don't think it was a mistake - I just received their latest eshot...

:giggle: didnt think it was possible to smile with the way I am feeling at the moment, but that did it!
[helper]#33
It could have been worse - I remember reading an article about "whistleblowing" and a bloke who worked in an instore bakery. A couple of his work colleagues regularly urinated in the dough during the nightshift just for a laugh..... Didn't say what the store or chain was though.

I'm hesitant to call back after the way I have been treated so far

Plus, if I keep calling back they will think that I am just after £££ and may not even believe it happened (although we still have the product, just incase!)

it doesnt matter how many times you call back, its only logged once.

they wont see that you have called several times before, dont worry about calling them 100 times...your not happy and thats that.
#37
May call later then and see if I have any more luck. Have already called a couple of times though, and it doesnt seem to matter who I speak to....
#38
no problem Kelly,

good luck !
#39
Lol, I'll wait until you go in and then call :giggle: or, you can call for me :p

Will try later (maybe!) and let you know how I get on
#40
I use this line....

You don't get paid enough to listen to what I'm about to say, so do you want to pass me to the team leader now or after I've made you cry?

Or...

Can i speak to the team leader? No.
Oh OK, can i speak to someone that isn't on work experience? What do you mean.
Well someone employed full time by tesco would know they are to pass me to their team leader straight away.
