Just done our first online shopping with Tesco, delivery was fine, everything ok....

My question is. Do you give the delivery man a tip?

The missus seemed to think he was hanging about a bit, and she said was he expecting a tip..

What do you do???

i rarely ever tip..or if i do the tip i give is "want more money? get a better job!"
#2
i never have, been getting my shopping delivered for 2 years now
banned#3
they shouldn;t expect a tip - its up to you, but im a sucker who always tips people even if they dont deserve it.. my missus kicks my **** when i tip arrogant sh#ts
#4
nope, they have a job and get paid.
Better than being on the dole, they should tip you as you are j=keeping them employed.
The £5 delivery cost is for them.
#5
Did he want an actual tip, as in cash, or do you think he maybe wanted a "tip" of the missus?

Interesting ;-)

nice avi:thumbsup:
#7
I never have, but then all that happens is that he gets it out o the van and puts it on the doorstep - if he put it in the cupboards...that might be a different story!
#8
yeah - give him a tip "DON'T SHOP AT TESCO's"

#10
nope we have 2 deliveries a week at least and i dont tip. Erm why should we?
#11
i tip all labourers, they deserve it especially when out in all weathers for crap money
#12
i dont tip they're getting paid
#13
I rekon he wanted to give your Mrs the tip of something :whistling:
#14
Never tip.
#15

Nooooooooooo

They get paid a wage.

same as in a restaraunt......whats the difference?

Whats the point of getting your groceries delivered, paying the delivery charge and then tipping the driver, adding extra £10 on top of your shopping :?

Do you tip your postman when he drops of a parcel?

who says anything about a tenner?

yes i do tip the postman at xmas as it goes as well or i used to.....only thing is in london its not the same 1 so its a little difficult

you said they get paid a wage along with a few others but yet i imagine most of you tip in a restaurant if any of you go anywhered other than mcdonalds.....not a dig btw.....whats the difference?
#17
nikkib123
Well its £5 for the delivery anyway and then how much would you tip???

Christmas is different everyone tip the postman at Christmas but tipping your grocery driver every week - I don't think so!

depends on the scenario but generally if the delivery man comes with a big shop he will get enough for a pint or at least a tin of beer from the fridge:) we aint talkin notes here
#18
The question made me think and I must be weird.

I tip delivery of takeaway but not a weekly shop. How I make a difference is beyond me actually but there we go.

At chrimble I tip. Usually beer though :)
#19
nikkib123
Wow really!
Do you tip all delivery men then? The ones that drop of sofa's, TV's etc etc?

yes they all walk away with something inc tradesman beer generally does the trick with them tho......i dont often get sofas n tv's delivered tbh

thats the point there is some tipping discrimination going on here......

think about it....justification was they get paid earlier in the thread.
#21
nikkib123
I only tip, hairdressers, barmen, taxi drivers and waiters BUT only if they have been good :p

Oh and my gardener!

but they all get paid a wage:?:

I'd like to say that it's down to the delivery charge but it can't be. I got some free delivery codes for adsa from here and didn't tip then either.

I need to re-think that. You're right.
#23
nikkib123
Yes I know but its traditional to tip these people!
You can only go on what you have been shown/brought up to do.

we never had groceries delivered when i was a lad so.....i made a new tradition

if i only ever went on what id been shown and brought up on i would never have left the village......thats a poor excuse im afraid
#24
I only tip when i'm abroad for some reason like a waiter
#25

Hmmm well I pay a delivery charge so not tipping delivery driver - end of.
The OP asked for opinions and thats mine (and probably most peoples on here).

It would be a boring world if we all though the same ;-)

same as you bought a drink/meal why should you tip the barman/waiter:?

cant see where you are coming from really but your right its your choice:)

sorry to pick on ur post btw as there were several others spouting the same crap
#27
they are not allowed to accept any tips and should they do then they should be reported for it as its against the rules
#28
nikkib123
I have paid for my shopping
I have paid a deliver charge
I am NOT tipping the driver as well!

When I go for a meal I pay for the food/service
I DONT pay them a delivery charge for bringing the food to me?
I then give them a tip!

i understood what u were saying but i cant comprehend how you discriminate between who gets a tip and who doesnt they all get paid to do their jobs so why tip 1 and not the other?
#29

so you give someone a tip and then report them for accepting it

you are not within your right mind if you do that kind of stuff:o
#30
nikkib123
I have not really thought about it in this depth before WOW!

With me it is the delivery charge, I pay that so not giving tip.

Is like taking a train and then tipping the driver!

you dont have personal contact with the driver of a train so its not the same.....

.its the same as a waiter/barman bringing your food/drink to you yet you choose to discriminate against the driver........why is this? there is no difference for me
#31
nikkib123
Well we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

what are we disagreeing on?

discrimination:thinking:

no thats not what i meant i am refering only to tesco delivery drivers they are not allowed to accept anything and if i as another employee of tesco found out someone was accepting tips then i would have to report them.

she has been assed thanks......cheers for your concern tho:)
nikkib123
He is not going to starve because I haven't given him a tip that he doesn't deserve.
Obviously you have more money than sense!

i never said he wasnt gonna starve i just wobdered how you make the judgement on who getrs tipped and who doesnt!

im not loaded and i dont get more than 1 shop delivered a week so 2/3 in change or couple of beers i dont really miss tbh

you cba because there is no justification for discrimination in the real world

You are going way too overboard on this talking about "discriminating" people and making "judgements".

It is simply a descision I have made and I am happy with this choice. I can live with it!!

im not the 1 discriminating tho or judging who should get tips and who shouldnt:?

anyways im off to get my pizza before asda delivery turns up and cleans me out:)
#38
tip 10% of order value
