Tesco Home Delivery.....Cancelled at the eleventh hour......REALLY not happy

Expecting a delivery of Tesco home shopping today between 9pm and 11pm.
Received a phone call just after 8pm to say they could not deliver because the
driver was ill!! My options were to COLLECT the shopping myself or wait until
tomorrow!!! No financial refund nothing.
Wound up/Uset because:-
1: Tesco must have know way before 8pm that we were not going to get the delivery
2: If we were out when they delivered we would have to pay for delivery again but
they fail to deliver and they are not liable for anything.
3: ( and probably most importantly ) I have no beer and no dinner ( fresh pizza )

I will not be using Tesco again, ever!!!!
( I know this will not make that much difference to their multi billion pound turnover )

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Yep, had that happen to me a couple of times-

Call the customer service helpline and complain, they redelivered mine for free and refunded the service charge- Far from ideal but better than nothing.

Hi, Juliet_Bravo,

Sorry to hear it's happened to you also.

I have rang the customer service helpline to complain and was offered
a delivery tomorrow ( same food that has been picked for delivery today!! )
or that I could come and collect the shopping nothing more!!!

Have spoken to their "on-line" customer services in the past. I think it's staffed by specially trained incompetents who are too unpleasant to be used as Tesco shop staff. It must be very difficult finding people like that. :whistling:

Tesco home delivery used to be great when we started using it, but these last few months its been dreadful, no delivery is ever right, even customer services commented that I always have a large refund due to the poor service, wrong items, missing items, out of date items, and the list goes on. Unfortunately Asda is worse, so I only use home shopping if I am absolutely desparate, like last week when I was too sick to go out, the home delivery was marginally better than sending my husband!

Call up again and complain. Ask to speak to a manager and don't be fobbed offer by the person on the phone. This happened to me, I think it may even have been the same time slot and it was definately given the same excuse (driver ill - yeah right!). I complained loudy and was given free delivery (ask them to re-pick the shopping) and a £10 gift card as compensation. I insisted on the gift card as opposed to an online code as told them I wouldn't be using their delivery service again!

Thanks for all your input people.
My OH had already rang them and tbh we could not be bothered
to ring aain. I guess if all I could end up with is a voucher then
I would have to shop there again which I will not do......

The corruption in Tesco is rife. I can guarantee that you have been charged for that shopping you never recieved and you will have to make a lot of phone calls to get your refund.
The majority of refunds on Tesco.com will be promised but never recieved. They are usually for missing items, so not that much, and the customer doesn;t bother to check. They will only process about 75% of refunds.
If you do have to phone up again they will probably ask for your card details to issue the refund.
DO NOT GIVE THEM OVER. The Tesco call centres are notorious for fraud and they should never need to ask for those details.

A lot of fraud goes on there but they usually sweep it under the rug. The problem is that the staff are school drop outs with no education and they don't even work for Tesco. Some recruitment agency that gives them minimum wage and no holidays.

Intresting statements you make there. Is it just the tesco call centre where the staff are school drop outs? or does this statement cover all?

and agencys do give people holidays, they have to by law. Have you ever worked for a job agency?

The agency does provide holidays for their staff but they have to be authorised by Tesco first. If they dont get authorised, they cant take them. If they are not used up after the year they are lost. The majority of holiday requests are declined which puts staff morale way down.
#23
then surely they should be taking tesco to an employment tribunual. As tesco are breaking the law
#24
If the staff bitch about it they will be sacked. With them being signed on temp contracts they can be sent packing whenever Tesco says.
To be honest it may be the same in other supermarket call centres but I only know about the corruption in Tesco because I worked in their offices in Cheshunt
#25
I worked in the tesco store near where i used to live, and know it is one of their flag ship stores, and it is in big financial trouble, as the managers are incompitent. I think that is a big chunk of the problem, management and above
#26
I think they just got too big for their boots. They will do anything to increse their profits better than the previous year so they will cut corners where they can.
Problem is that in doing so they upset customers and staff. For example, an "ill driver". They have drivers on day offs they can use and can even "borrow" ones from nearby stores. Also anyone who works for Tesco and has a standard car licence can legaly drive those vans. (under 3.5T and they are insured for any Tesco employee) The manager could have delivered. No excuse.
They just don't care anymore about going a bit further for the customer so they stop at the first hurdle.
