Ok so I was asked to go to the job centre today and take a test or something for a Christmas job at my local tesco's, the test was pretty simple, it was just a question sheet with around 15 multiple choice questions I had to choose the most likely thing and the most least thing out of 4 answers.

Anyway I gathered you had to reach a certain target score because we filled out a rough one first then the job centre staff went through them and if it was under the right score they changed the some of our answers to the right ones lol, then they give you a application to fill out basic information and then fill in the question sheet with the right answers lol.

Anyway I've got an interview next Tuesday at the job centre.
As I said its only for Christmas staff, not sure if its part - time or not.
I was wondering if anyone has had an interview before with them or if anyone on here works for tescos and does these interviews and just would like some general advice.

I know obviously to prepare and to be myself and to research the company a bit but this is my first ever interview and I get very nervous and worried that I'll fluster and things lol.

I know its not the greatest job to some people but I'm trying at least.

Would really appreciate and advice and a general Idea on what kinda questions they'll ask really?

I think they said the interviews for like 15 min so it cant be that intense can it?

Plus there's 25 positions available?

Thank you

I know its not the greatest job to some people but I'm trying at least.

Good for you, I hope you are successful.

Questions will try to find out if you are reliable, have experience of similar work, have common sense etc.

Just dress smartly, go clean (especially fingernails) and try to smile and be yourself during interview.

Remember there are no right/wrong answers - they are trying to get an impression of you as a person.

Best of luck.

Good Luck, sorry Tesco job experience.

But still good for you to have it on your CV. Like cannyscot says just be very presentable and pleasent. Clean you nails, teeth and shoes.
Listen to what they say, that may sound silly, but I've interviewed people and they have given me answers that don't relate to the question! Needless to say they didn't get the job. LOL

Make sure you let us know how you go on.

excellent advice-dont worry op,just relax,be yourself and you will be fine. Dont bother spending any time researching the company-supermarkets arent interested in that, just say some general point about how when you shop there, you have noticed everyone is very helpful etc.-you dont need to read up on tesco as a company.

As Mike said its all about teamwork at Tesco, Ive been there nearly a year now. the chap I had interview me was very down to earth and basically they will ask some of the questions from the job centre thing but in a slighty different way, as said clean and presentable, try and be a little bit early aswell as that goes down well. the guy I saw could tell i was nervous and was really good and broke the ice by having a general chat

Oh and Good luck

Full on respect to you Mr Muir.
WIth this attitude, you'll get the job if you just be yourself.

Big thumbs up mate and fingers crossed at the same time!

Cannyscot's on the money - the interview's more about seeing how you are with people than how good you are at answering questions. Remember, if they employ you (and I think they will, you seem to have a good attitude), you're going to be the face of the shop, so they want to be represented by someone good. Show them that you're the cheerful and approachable type, and you'll do fine.

Something that often comes up in these sorts of interviews is personal experiences of good and bad customer service. Think to yourself now about times where you've received really good customer service, think about why it was especially good, and consider how the same sort of helpfulness could be applied within the Tesco context. Show them that you understand what makes for a good customer service experience and that you're a good person, and you'll do well.

lol yeah. I suppose the job centre people want to just get everybody a interview, even though half the people in the room looked about as useful as a potato.

I've worked at tesco twice and almost a 3rd time when i was out of work, basically say your flexible and take what hours they are offering
I've done days and nights and to be honest you can usually swop shifts after a few weeks, and over xmas theres loads of overtime so if they 16hrs its usually more like 40hrs

Thanks for the advice peeps!!

If they offer me more work or permanent afterwards then ill probably take it for now. A jobs better than sitting on my **** bored all day long.

Ok peeps , my interview is tomorrow and I'm quite nervous.

This is my first ever interview lol and I just don't know what to expect.
I've read up loads of things on loads of sites but I'm still worried.
What if I can't answer the question?

I'm trying to remember some of the answers to some basic questions but just can't seem too.

Its not the end of the world though and I've just gotta try.

Wish me luck

Good luck buddy.

They will prob ask you a couple of questions about customer service and "what would you do"

I doubt any questions will be too hard to answer.

Also when asked what hours you can do say any, a mate put not weekends and guess what...

Just be a super team player, not too clever, not too stupid, available all hours, keen and willing. You'll ace it. It's usually a bit of a group sesh, jus tto make sure you're not an antisocial freak (like I am) or bossy and overwhelming. Be easy-going, cheerful and pleasant and you'll be fine. Best of luck! xx
