Just been told at work Tesco staff get double discount with privilege card next week (20%). Would imagine its nation wide not just store specific.

yeah its nationwide, just got my letter in post

Just opened the letter, Not going to buy anything though. Big beer pack offer has been dropped to 2 for £18 so it would have been cheaper to stock up yesterday on the promo than to now do it with double discount. Anything on Tesco direct could have been had cheaper or just as cheap a couple of times recently when promotions and codes were combined (e.g. PS4 / XboxOne), conveniently absent of promotions or codes now, so not cheaper.
Just last week a 15% off code was available for Tesco Direct, not for long admittedly but still, combine that with regular discount....

It's a ploy, to make you feel like they are giving you something that they just aint.
I'll just end up saving an extra £3 on my weekly Tesco delivery of £30.

I hope you are right, I did manage to stock up on a few things last time. Maybe I was a little harsh.

why can't everyone have a double discount, if it wasn't for the loyal shoppers Tesco wouldn't have the money to pay the staff any wages :|

so you're saying if it wasn't for the loyal shoppers Tesco wouldn't have the money to pay the staff any wages?

so you feel Tesco should give every shop worker a 20% discount?

Yes, I do.
It doesn't happen all the time (Maybe once every year or two) and it's a new thing, only introduced in the last few years.

John lewis gives a bigger discount and larger discounts every year to staff.
Woolworths used to give out a larger discount and a 20% off day for staff every month or two.

It's a nice little 'Thank you'

how many times a year do Tesco workers give the company some sort of gift as a thank you for giving them a job or are they just ungrateful?

Quite a lot actually.
I helped out with community activities, helped out with everything and anything I could when I was there, helped organise events, gave my time (For free on many occasions), helped out around christmas times and other busy times during the year, often staying a little longer for no extra pay.

I haven't worked there for about 2 years now.

It's a benefit of working there.
they don't have to provide a discount card, or shares, or bonuses (Which they don't provide) or a decent (In terms of shop workers) level of pay either, but they do.

people in general are **** as you put it....
you think call centre staff are any better?
or security, bouncers, police, ambulance, doctors and nurses etc dont have to put up with assaults and abuse certainly on a more frequent basis than tesco staff....
what about those who work at airports and have to deal with idiots who dont read the small print, terms and conditions of their travel... or take the brunt of it when 'idiots' dont bring their passport...
and lastly what about people like me who tell it how it is and receive abuse from single minded individuals....

I've not stated that anyone is any better than anyone else, or that anyone working in all those professions doesn't deserve a little extra.

If you really want a discount, maybe you should go work at Tesco.

well, no generic codes but a few item specific ones out today...
£5 of £30 entertainment
£20 of any ipad
£15 of £100 baby or £30 of £200

got myself witcher 3 pre-order for £24, doubt it'll get much cheaper than that for pre-order.

I am very pleasant in my store treat staff exactly how i treat any other human being, but i find Tesco staff can be arrogant and rude with out any help from customers.

in my experience (looking) tesco workers do the least work
it may be that because thats where i shop the most often so its where i see it the most laziness but i think proportionately tesco workers definitely do the least (closely followed by the co-op)
though i did get good service earlier on their so its not all bad

in my experience asda the most helpful
lidl hardest working if you can find anyone!

That will happen anywhere, it's not Tesco seeking out rude people to work for them.

and lol wtp, if you're jealous of Tesco giving their staff double discount, go and work for them? :|
