You don't get charged for receiving text unless you are abroad yoursef. The sender pays.

i don't think that's right.
it will be more expensive for HIM but not for you.
There is no charge for receiving texts, wherever you are in the world and whoever it is from (with the exception of the paid for text services)

I'm fairly sure you don't get charged to receive texts, even abroad.

Well as fas as I knew, he was charged more for sending it but that you would also be charged for receiving it, plus you've texted back also, I guess it depends on what tarriff your on, maybe best to phone Vodafone and ask how much you've been charged, better to know now than wait until your bill comes.

I get texts from Ireland, US and Albania and have never paid anything, except for replying of course.

Sending text messages from the UK to an international UK mobile number costs 24p per message (inc.VAT). Receiving messages from abroad is free if you are in the UK, however some international networks may charge you to receive text messages while you’re abroad.

Taken from Vodafones website....

Anno this was years ago and when I thought about it we've not been charged for messages from Australia. Doh.

I thought you were thinking that thought. Yep, in the early days of text messaging they used to charge the receiver too.

I'm going travelling soon, and O2 told me my 300 free texts goes down to 75 when texting from abroad, and my 150 minutes equate to 0 minutes.

my daughter has just come back from travelling for 6 months, her o2 phone contract was a pile of ***ap, they didn't allow her anything, yet she had to keep paying the monthly tarrif (or owe them a load of money). She ended up buying cheap SIM cards abroad and going PAYG. She is going travelling again in a couple of weeks and this time o2 have said she doesn't have to pay any monthly fee and she can have loads of texts & minutes free - biggest load of rubbish I have ever heard but she won't believe me!
