The best Firewall and Anti-Virus?

This may be one of those topics that comes around every so often just like the number 19 bus.

I'm thinking of getting a new pc (like the Dell one Mike T posted for £329.07) and need some guidance on the best firewall and antivirus. I've used Norton on my old pc, but have heard many say that Norton ought to be avoided at all costs.

Are free firewall and antivirus as good as ones that you pay for.

I just don't know the answer...please help :o

I'm using Zone alarm internet security suite, Its based on kapersky anti virus and their own very good firewall!

Also has Anti-spyware etc.

As for free, I've found Zonealarm basic is good and AVG isn't to bad.

Spybot search and destroy and adware se personal are also good (for anti-spyware).

The best paid combo is Zone Alarm (the paid version).

There are some really good free alternatives, though. Comodo firewall is at least as good as Zone Alarm firewall and AVG or Avast are excellent anti-virus programs (in some tests even better than Zone Alarm anti-virus).

Just please note that the free version of Zone is very limited and offers only basic protection. I would not recommend it. There are much more advanced free firewalls (Comodo, Kerio).

If you have XP Ducky I guess you are using a firewall as one is included in the software..it's better than nowt but you'd be far more secure with ZA.
