From next month motorists to get £2,000 discount on new cars if they trade in cars older than 10 years - this will remain in place until March 2010

this was obvious one, but it will work

From what I saw the Govt gives £1000 towards the car scrapping and the motor industry the other £1000. What price the motor industry loading the price of the new cars then taking the grand off?
How is it a green policy? The old car has to be scrapped and a nice new one imported from Japan or Germany- at least we're doing our bit to aid their economies........

2p a litre on fuel this sept and 1p every april for 4 years!

What a load of cr$p!!!

Why why why?

How is that going to help anything apart from few smart heads which will try to make a living out of it! They may as well give £200 towards your new TV if you give them your old one!

It's supposed to get the car industry going again. People love a deal.

I know that's the intention, but don't agree with it. Why the manufactures should retain their (fairly high) profits, why they can't offer discount ?? Maybe through reducing operation costs etc. not through government (us) paying for it - only my opinion

And how would anyone driving a virtually scrap vehicle be able to afford a new motor anyway?..... stupid schemes, only going to benefit the scavengers of society, the same people who get as much credit as possible, then move house.

10 year old cars aren't all 'virtually scrap'. I'm sure there are some people (who aren't scavengers) who will take advantage of this.

Erm, I've got a '99 Impreza and have absolutely no intentions of scrapping it or trading it in because it's in far too good a condition and there are no running problems at all with it. Some people do actually look after their cars, regardless of age. Doesn't make us 'the scavengers of society'
#24
anything else apart from this?
#25
Woah woah woah, what I mean is, the people driving 20 year old escorts and the like are going to see this as an opportunity thus spoiling it for the people who want to buy low end second hand cars. People will the set out to buy £500 cars just to trade them in.
