My son is going to the chafford school in Rainham in September and the school tie he has to wear has been changed to a clip-on (according to the school the clip on ensures the child keeps the top button done up) - in my opinion having a button done up doesnt help them study any harder but anyway - i am looking for the 'normal' tie where you tie it yourself - does anyone have one that their child no longer needs - or knows where i can buy one of the old school ties from ? - thanks

It's probably also for safety.

School may not let him wear it anyway if everyone else is wearing the clip ons - when my school changed the uniform everyone had to have the new tie (different, but proper ties) because school said they were cheap enough to change, could continue wearing wrong coloured shirts etc though for first year

Partly to make everyone look smarter (instead of long thin ties or ties halfway down shirt etc, partly for safety reasons as well

our kids school tried this last year but the clip on ties kept breaking parents refused to replace them demanded the school had to replace them then the older kids thought it was great fun taking the ties of the younger pupils it was completely mad school quickly went back to the other ties before end of term they replaced most clip on ties

i actually thought that was the reason for it- but when i asked i was told by the deputy head - it was to ensure that the top button is done up with a normal tie they can leave the button open and they shouldn't - i then had quite a discussion over how the hell does a button being done up or undone make any difference to how a child learns - lol

no they said if he had one he could wear it -so long as it had the obligatory 5 stripes showing

when my youngest started comp he had never tied a tie before and he is really kak handed do i bought him a clip on, he wore it once, got the pee took out of him and demanded a proper one :)
I have often had a "discussion" with the school regarding uniform.....he came home one day with a written comment ( too many of these means detention) about having his shirt untucked! FFS.....they need to concentrate on teaching!

the whole havering thing, is more to do with the status of the school and how the kids wear the uniform than the safety of the kids at times, drives me totally crazy.

Lol, buy them and sell them to all the other parents who think the same as you (I'm sure you wont be the only one wanting a proper tie!)

might not make him study any harder but it will stop him looking like a scruff, which is no bad thing

and is this a thread looking for a tie or is it to boast that your son is going to that school?

Kinders in upminster may have them.

my daughters school av decided to introduce clip on ties aswell cause she,s in year 9 she still has her old one and refuse to wear the new one and to make it worse the school are offering to exchange the new ones for free so cant even say i cant afford it , oh well lots of detentions in september i expect :whistling:

Clip on ties for Year 9 is a joke, we had normal ties even in primary school. It's just embarassing at that age. I'd refuse aswell.

So did we until they changed to t-shirts, the very young infants used to wear them on an elastic band but 99% of kids had a proper one before they left infants
