On my way home from college this morning, an elderly lady was leaving her garden and asked me to test the padlock on her garden door since she was wondering whether she should buy one or not. Obviously I helped her out, and as I was walking away after, she told me to come back and pulled a £20 note out of her pocket. I refused, but then she insisted upon it and said to consider it as a Christmas present so I thought may as well...

Anything else similar happen to anyone recently?

She'd just been burgled and was looking for some finger prints.

Now has them and a good description of a possible offender seen in the area to give to the police.

£20 not looking too good now is it.

These old people aren't as daft as you think mate.

A few years ago a woman who lived by a bus stop gave a few people some candy. People still think she's crazy.

I take it you mean you kicked in the garden door and grabbed the twenty from a crying old ladies hand before running away cackling wickedly as you did.

You monster!

aww that was nice of her, and I know that old people can be forceful at times. Personally i'd write her a nice note thanking her for her kindness but tell her I couldn't possibly take her money, and put it and the money in an envelope through her door. Wish her a merry Christmas n such.

i can't get through the gate
i've lived here all my life and she only likes like 2 minutes away from me and never seen her before
i was thinking about just keeping an xmas card with the money in it over the next few days just in case i see her or anything, but i doubt i will

And your ski mask ;-)

No seriously that was very generous of her. If it was me I'd take the £20 buy her a new padlock and fit it for her. And with the change I'd get her some flowers. Old people can get very lonely living by themselves.Doing something like that could make their year. And you might even get a nice cup of tea and a couple of teamtime bickies

and if she gave it to him and he said no but she insisted i think she will be offended if he returns it... not everyone fits the poor old lady stereotype... prob made her feel good doing it... let it be,,everyone wins

I had somthing like this happen to me once.

It was when I was about 15 or so..
at lunch time me and my mates went to the shop and bought pies, pastys, cakes etc..
they all came fully wraped in that white paper bag thing.

my mates droped the bags onto the floor.. so I bent down and picked up all the bags and put them in the bin.

An old gentleman walked up to me and gave me a tenner for doing it.
I refused but he pushed the tenner into my hands.

He then told my mates off for dropping litter lol

Return to the house and ask if there is anything else she needs checking...like her marbles.

There's gold in them there hills.

Dunno about college, this could be your path to uni paid for.

seriously instead of money back i think she would just prefer it if u were pleanset when u saw her and made an effort.

dont return the money.... it would probably upset her that u dont think she can gve u 20 quid

What you trying to do finish her off so he can have the lot?

The heartlessness of some HUKD'ers never ceases to amaze me.

Next you will want to put her stuff she left in the FS/FT.

I dunno how you lot sleep at night.

I'd remember to give her the key though otherwise people might complain about the smell after a few days if you lock her in.

Was the padlock on her chastity belt, and you were "servicing" it!?!

my husband is a carpet fitter for his dad's shop. they also stock lay-z-boy reclining chairs / sofas / home cinema systems. he fits carpets locally but with the lay-z-boy stuff, he can go all over the uk with his deliveries. he's taken some of the cinema systems to famous footballers, tv presenters etc. some of the homes he's been in could feature in hello magazine. alot of old people order the standard lay-z-boy as it's a recliner & easier to get in & out of than a standard chair. he never ever gets tips from the rich people. the old people with not as much money are the ones that usually tip him. i go nuts if he takes the money from the old people. personally i don't think you should tip a delivery guy. it's their job to bring the stuff to your house & they are getting paid in the 1st place. i was out when we got a delivery from argos & he tipped the argos guys £10. i'd paid a delivery charge on top too! ok, rant over!

Actually, she only wears those clothes because she found them on someone's lawn after a messy divorce, and if you look carefully, you'll see that she's actually dead.

i'd tip someone if i knew they were worth tipping, like if it were a uni student just doing a part time job
but yeah, it's the rich people that don't really give out too much money and the less fortunate do
