The Greatest Chat Show Host Of His Era....

with possibly the greatest chat show guest.

Stephen Fry on the Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

If you haven't seen it, he's the funniest guy on tv right now, bar Jon Stewart and he did a special show without any studio audience.

If you've never seen it, then every show is uploaded to youtube and he is an absolute genius.

Link in first post.

Just trying to bring something to people's attention that isn't screened in this country.

It's very entertaining and the interviewees are a lot more revealing and at ease than any other late night host.

Craig Ferguson can be quite broad and dirty.

Craig Ferguson is Scottish-born.

Stephen Fry is English.

Not even an American audience.

So well done.

Thanks for that - watching it now

The only two people onscreen are a scot and an englishman chatting away though... surely that balances it a tiny bit?

Edit: Didn't see the post above, meaning it took me 5 minutes to type that. Damn.

He hosts a 'late night' show in a 'late night' slot.

He's not really trying to be The View here. Add to that he'll probably take over from Letterman in the future...

There was a great editorial in the LA Times about him recently.

I love Craig Ferguson. A Scotsman who has made it big over in the USA. At one point he was dating/living with Sharon Stone. His sense of humour is brilliant and personally I love seeing another Scot hitting the big time over there.

Im glad you didnt take this personally!

I just feel the whole american night chat shows, Leno, OBrien (that was), ferguson, kimmel are all poor and americans just watch them as the shows are more of an institution, Much as people here watch Coronation Street, a large majority of people watch rubbish out of habit

Leno is, and has been, terrible. Kimmel is uncomfortable, O'Brien was a great writer, got a little better, Letterman was great but seems disinterested and Fallon is just dying nightly.

That's why Ferguson is such a nice change. He's an intelligent guy with a interesting life. He doesn't just do the late night thing, he mixes it up as evidenced by last night's 'radical' show.

Another example - he was talking to Clare Danes who mentioned her husband's father was a moral philospher.

Ferguson's response was 'pre or post-enlightenment?'

That isn't your traditional late-night host.

Im glad to discuss views with you FilthandFurry !::-D

When chat shows just became a cheap vehicle for some star to push their latest book, and the interviews are usually so lightweight, I cannot see the point (Yes Jonathan Ross im looking at you). I think Michael Parkinson stated somewhere about being only to get stars that want to push a book/movie and not for a decent interview

Parkinson himself on his comeback i think said it then, to describe why those newer interviews were no as popular as his earlier ones.

Maybe I just have not 'got' Ferguson yet, but interesting you share my views on much of the other interviewers!

Very rarely does the interview become a butt-worshipping session and often the guest will leave with barely a mention of what they came to plug.

He's just an interesting man who is genuinely interested in other people.

There are also uploads of his take on the Britney Spears meltdown where he discussed his own attempt at suicide, and also a piece where he eulogises his father.

I agree with that!

Should I be ashamed to admit I just love the Jonathan Ross Show looool. His wit and sarcasm has me roflmao. We all have a different sense of humour - and none of us can slate anyone else for finding a certain type funny - we are all different.

Jubby, there has got to be many comedians you find funny but perhaps your partner/friends just dont! That doesnt mean that they are all wrong or you are right - it just means we all have a different sense of humour!!

Of course you are not wrong, and neither is FilthAndFurry, It was enjoyable discussing the viewpoint with the OP, that they go into detail as to why he makes a good show, and you will find we agree a great deal on the subject!

Watched the whole interview and it starts off slowly because it is such a radical departure from the 'whoopy' nature of American talk show audiences, but it turns into a very nice chat between two very intelligent, very interesting individuals.

The skinny - Fry discusses his love of America, his bi-polarity, the English language, Twitter, drug use and a little bit of time on the move he's promoting:-D

I bet he doesn't mention why he wants in on America, Hugh Laurie now earns much more than him!
