Pan's Labyrinth.

I usually research films but for some reason I didn't with this one and just gave a cursory glance to some of the reviews.
I wish I had read more because it definitely wasn't what I was expecting overall.

It is however a very, very good film but NOT the magical fairy story I had assumed. It has a 15 rating and I think it should have been an 18. I wouldn't want any 15 year old of mine watching it. Very violent in places.

Mark Kermode's film of the year..and he's definately the film critic I most respect..it's now out on DVD so I'll be adding to my list of "must see"

Unnecessarily so too, I thought. There were certain things that could have been left to the imagination and still had the same impact (I bet you know which particular bit I mean!)

I admire the confidence..I'm 100% behind boro...the last thing we want is a boring MU v Chelsea final.

Are you joking?

The first is the best by far, that's why the director jumped ship.

A film like that can really only be done once, you are always looking for the twists and story line when they make more, role on SAW IV:whistling:

...and then was Executive Producer on the second one, wrote the third one, and will Executive Produce the fourth. ;-) He's remained very much involved in all of them.

Really well acted film, I don't usually like this type of sentimental slush but this was very good. Sean Penn is a really good actor in my opinion.
What first attracted me to it was the soundtrack. Superb cover versions of Beatles songs. The following is from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Sam

The soundtrack consists entirely of covers of songs by The Beatles. Initially, Penn wanted to set the movie solely to Beatles recordings. When the producers attempted to obtain the rights to use the songs, they learned that Michael Jackson, who owned the rights, was charging $300,000 per song. Should the rights have been purchased, it would have cost $4.5 million dollars, which would have set a record in terms of money paid for songs in a Hollywood production. Instead, Penn commissioned other artists, such as Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow,Sarah McLachlan, Rufus Wainwright, The Wallflowers, The Vines, and Ben Folds, to cover the songs for the soundtrack.

 :)

watched shaggy dog with the kids at the weekend, watching MI3 tonight.

I started to watch 'the fountain' on a recent flight from Dubai, I had to turn it off as I would have rather put cocktail sticks in my eyeballs. It must be bad as I usually watch any old rubbish on flights but this was painfull.
#38
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (again.) great film. About to watch infernal affairs 2.
#39
I was at my brothers last week & he made me watch "Team America" - At first I was sat wondering what on earth was going on but was soon PMSL! ! ! Hysterical sillyness! :giggle:

We also watched "The Last Kiss", with the bloke from Scrubs in it. Good film, but a bit uncomfortable viewing with bro & wife who have a few trust issues! ! !

"The Island" in High Def :) Sweet !
