Is it all over the UK or just here?? The moon looks really big tonight, and I mean REALLY big. It's HUGE!! Is it all over the UK because of the angle the Earth is at or is it just something in my area?

Apparantly it's something to do with when the moon is on the horizon.

NASA say that "Cameras don't see it, but our eyes do. It's a real illusion". That explains why it was just a dot on my K750i's camera. :(

The moon is no bigger on the horizon than it is when high in the sky. The effect we see is entirely illusory! The origin of this very strong psychological impression is not perfectly understood, by the way. It may originate in the fact that when the moon is low on the horizon we can subjectively compare it to things like trees and houses in the foreground, whereas when it is high in the sky, surrounded on all sides by a very large black void, it is perceived as a rather small source of light. Whatever the cause, it is a compelling illusion.

We have a windfarm out at sea close by where I live and if you go to the shore and view them they look small and far away. If you view them from a local inshore road where they just appear like trees on the land horizon they look like someone moved them all onto the beach....scary!

I got to see this in Australia - I was stuck in a huge traffic jam, we were there for hours - ambulances flying everywhere - i looked up and saw this "planet" take up the whole sky. quite red actually (sun reflection - not mars!), it was one of the most amazing sites of my life!!

unfortunately, no one remembers it bar me and my father - we both remember it vividly - THIS IS A REAL SITE TO SEE!
