ok well i received my n1 today first impressions fantastic screen ,light ,a bit slippy in the hands, came with case and 4gb card, ui moves swiftly only trouble for me is allready having a 3gs, its no iphone killer its very good if i didnt have a 3gs i would be quite happy with it, but it doesnt do it any better than the iphone, the iphone just has it nailed down the apps the ui, android will get better and better but the next iphone will sink the n1 in the water imo, the n1 is 300 times better than the htc hd2 though had that for 1 day sold it immediately, mind you i have the n1 for a day and thats for sale, i just couldnt live without my ebay app sky sports and news app tomtom and many many others ,so nice try htc/google but apple have imo the finest phone /multimedia device on the planet.

Ya I didn't think it could mess with the iphone. :-D

thought the HTC Hero was the Iphone killer already.........

by the by, Co-pilot for the androids are good alternative (instead of tomtom)

Also.. im sure that most apps you can get on iphone you can also get on androids.. possibly more.. and possibly cheaper/free (without jailbreaking).

Oh and has iphone figured out how to open more than one app at a time yet? :)

No that was last month.

New 'iPhone killers' come out regularly. You'll know when a device actually gets close to being a genuine iPhone killer - Apple will release the 4G!

I completely agree, iPhone rules!!

And as soon as 4.0 comes out for the iPhone users, it will be like having a new phone.

I have an iPhone, but don't find it that special. It slows down so much soooo often.

Agreed.

BTW, OP, why do you have TomTom on your iPhone? (Or are you happy not to have a working phone when you want to get from A to B)
#9
What makes me laugh is the Iphone has been out since what 2007? and yet still no phone has managed to beat either the touchscreen nor the UI!

Not a fanboy by the way :)

Copilot is good but nowhere near as good as tomtom the routing on copilot can be shocking at times but better than nowt untill google nav is here ,the google store is developing all the time but nothing like the app store, and as there is no hacking scene at the mo with android ,and you have installous and backgrounder with a jailbreak on the iPhone android just isn't there yet but believe me it is progressing and it's light Years. Ahead of win mo which is shocking compared with the 2 maybe windows mo 7 will do something about that but for now the htc hd2 is like a house without furniture .

lol this post made me leave this thread.

you need to read more.

Isn't that a waste of money?

I've read and read and read untill I feel dead in the head ,you can't polish a turd I really really wanted to
luv the hd2 but it's unliveable , I'm
sorry it just is even with hotfixes , roms and whatever but that screen is too die for win mo ain't.

so what is it about winmo that you don't like exactly? how much of winmo did you actually see when you were using sense? there are far more apps for winmo than there are for the iphone. even if you include fart apps as apps.

don't you find the iphone ui boring as hell? and the andriod does have a hacking community.

how are your notifications on your iphone? hows battery life? and non-desktop like browsing on the internet?

they'll call you one anyway, despite your accurate statement. I just don't understand how people can say the HD2 is better... the phone is great, the OS is a complete mess.

HD2 is definatly not better, okay fair enough it has better specifications compared to the iphone but whats more important, better specifications or a polished UI? I'm sure everyone's aware that WIn mo is terrible but on the other hand, Android has a lot of potential!

* Its been built from scratch for fingers and thumb use
* No activesync (and yes, vista/7 device centre is still activestink)
* scrolling, swiping and gestures all work smoothly

as for it being a mess... its just annoying. i used to love windows mobile but its just stood still and let everyone fly past. It should be by far the absolute best, and its nowhere near. Windows Mobile 7 is out at the end of the year, and it will again be too little too late.

I mess around on here and pretend I'm a fan boy, but really although I love the iPhone, competition is always a good thing, so I want MS to sort it out. i JUST cant see it.

Isn't Symbian being revamped soon aswell?

there's going to be a official multi-tasking upgrade released in the new iphone OS4 next week.

So its really going to be an official welcome to 2003 then?

err have you used wm 6.5.3 (6.6)? there isn't anything that i can't touch with my fingers. I've been using 6.5 for ages now and i forgot my phone even had a stylus.

have you used htc sense on the leo? do you even see any of winmo? I haven't seen much of winmo at all as MS actually lets you customise things and not decide what's best for you.

nice keyboard on your phone btw...:|

how about your battery life?

and again, you say winmo is a mess but you don't actually explain how? stood still? what can't it do now that other "evolved" os's can? i know my phone can handle more than one notification at a time.... can yours?

scrolling swiping gestures? how is winmo lacking here? it does all of these?

and wm7 a little too late? too late for what? what is this imaginary ship that is leaving?

from all i have seen about the iphone is that it is a really really shallow os full of compromises.

only thing that it is good at is games. but the hd2 can play ps1 games now at 30fps with multi touch. tekken anyone?

Haven't you noticed that most fones can multi task.... badly! How many current gen fones fall over when you are using them? Everyone i've had bar the iphone crashes on me! Rather not have it and it all work rather than some buggy half arsed OS that says it can but in reality ain't stable!
#24
After using my iPhone for ages I was shocked when a flash video worked so smoothly on my dads hd2. Apple needs to stop being so arsey and let adobe make a flash player for the iPhone.

Edit: winmo might not be up to much but the sense ui found on a lot of htc phones is beautiful to use.

one thing that people rarely mention during these pearphone/hd2 debates is this............

some people (me included) just don't want to be a sheep and follow the iphone army.

our lass is looking to get one and that's bully for her, but i wouldn't be seen dead with one.

at the mo i run a lowly touch diamond but it still does EVERY SINGLE THING i want it to do, often simultaneously, without any real problem.

i'm so looking forward to getting hold of an hd2 in the next month or two.

as for iphones, they just aren't my bag. fine that they are for other people, just not for me.

I agree with that comment.
Everyone has IPhones, and because of that it totally puts me off it, it's too common and too overpriced.

android - try google rooting and rom mod's. there are SO sooooooo much development on the field with android its actually a bit daunting. Official HTC stuff is good, they're bringing out new platform for a few phones.. on the dev tho its massive, people making so many new apps simply because they need it, they make it, they share it.. others improve on it, add stuff, edit stuff.. simple..

bigger than iphone simply because its open source, so anyone with some skills in coding can have a dabble.
android is growing so well that OS's are being developed for laptops etc..

not officiially (u can if u jailbreak it and achieve it) but a official upgrade aka iphone OS4 will have that feature next week.

so out of the box without jailbreaking it what happens if I am writing a text and someone calls me? can i answer the call and then when it ends return and carry on writing the text? or does it get saved to drafts etc?

thanks for the reply.

edit,

sorry i missed the official update that is being released.

thanks again :)

All of my comments were true, but rather comically, your own fan boy style reply, disagreeing with all my thoughts regardless of accuracy or reasoning, meant I felt there was no point in replying or discussing further.

Sense is indeed good, but why stick a UI on a UI - just fix the damn operating system.
#33
I'm not an ifan anyway. It does the things I want hence I own it. No other reasoning. If you like your fone - great.

The UI wasn't stuck ontop of another UI, it replaced the standard WinMo UI.

Theres no need to replace the whole operating system. Unless you delve really deep into settings then you will rarely ever come across standard WinMo.

WinMo and the snapdragon processor work blisteringly quick together so they must be doing something right.

it replaced the standard WinMo UI.

That is simply incorrect. It's a piece of software that runs on the existing operating system. Seriously, you can argue the toss if you like but its a fact. You said it yourself. If its not a UI on a UI, why do you sometimes end up in WinMo proper? Because its running in the background! Do you really think, regardless of the quality of HTC devs, a UI on a UI is gonna run better than a proper OS running its own?

I'm not knocking it - HTC have done a good job polishing a turd, but a turd it still is (the OS, not the hardware)

BTW, just a really simple none fanboy question.... why is it, that the HD2 browser is ever so slightly not as smooth at scrolling as the iPhone? Is it the OS, the CPU or the browser - because the specs say it should pee all over the iPhone.

Ive not noticed that, only thing ive noticed is that IE will render a page completely zoomed out, whereas the iPhone zooms in a bit so its useable.

You can change browsers on the HD2 anyway if you're not happy with Internet Explorer.

Also, yes, it runs atop of Windows, but it replaces the standard user interface.

I edited my post, but obviously too late, not that I added anything.

I was on about Opera actually... do people still use IE? I always liked it, but I thought most roms came with Opera as default now?

My dad's phone is just as default rom. I've used IE and Skyfire to test out tvcatchup. Opera was installed but i didn't check it out.
