.....the phrase 'could you just confirm?'

surely implies that the person asking has that information already, so why is it whenever somebody rings me and asks me to confirm my name and address and I ask them to give me the info to 'confirm' it they wont, erm 'data protection'. Well you know what, I'm protecting MY data and they are not having it.

Random caller 'Hello, I'm calling from blah blah blah, can you please confirm your name and address'.

Me 'Hello, yes of course, here's all you need to know even though I don't know if you had it in the first place or that you are actually the company you say you are'.

Twiiits

Head scratching moment over.

I laugh at this too-they call YOU,yet you have to confirm details, which,of corse, they may not actually have had in the first place-I just tell every single one of em to write to me-I refuse to discuss business of any sort with complete strangers on the phone.

NEVER had anyone call me and ask for my name & address. Surely no-one would ever give these details so why are they even bothering?

Are you registered with the TPS (you have to re-register every year)? I never get any cold calls whatsoever.

I am pretty certain Alliance and Leicester have passed my details on as I never had any problems up until I opened an account with them and always state that I do not want any details passed on, will have to update TPS then. Thank you

Halifax bank are good at this.

If you ask what dept they are from so that you can find the number yourself, and call them back, they won't tell you.
