The Pink Patch, Has anyone tried??

I was just looking through past posts just to check no-one else has posted it. There was one over 3 months ago about the pink patch but no-one had said if they'd tried it. I'm wondering if 3 months on people have tried it?? I'm 20 stone,I'm on anti-depressants and have put on over 11 stone in 4 years- my tablets have seriously made my appetite huge. I joined slimming world tonight but I want to try something where it stops me feeling hungry all the damn time!!! You can say drink water, been there done that, just makes me feel sick but doesn't fill me up. I've tried doing other things, but I end up feeling dizzy from hunger!!! I need help!!!

Water with a little squash becomes a little more palatable, and doesn't give you that bloated feeling. After a while water should become more and more easier to drink, as your body gets used to it. Don't give up on it!

Speak to your doctor, 99.9% of the **** like The Pink Patch you can buy over the counter is just created to make money off of people like you who think it might work :( If there's a real issue with your medication causing you to have a huge appetite they'll be able to advise, either by changing it or giving you some proper prescription stuff to help you out.

Good luck with it x

Are you sure it's the tablets that are increasing your appetite or could it be the depression that is leading you to overeat?

The trouble with depression is that it can be a never ending, self perpetuating cycle....you are depressed, you eat,you put on weight, you are depressed because of weight gain, you eat more etc etc.

Having had depression myself in the past I am fully aware of how horrible it can be,I actually lost a lot of weight rather than gain(became quite skinny) but it effects us all differently.

I do not know how long you have been taking tablets for,but if it is a while they are obviously not working so maybe you need to change them.If I am honest I think that most anti depressants don't really do that much, they didn't for me.....it was through a bit counselling and altering my mind set that I returned to the person I used to be.

Also, and be honest with yourself,by blaming the tablets, are you trying to shift responsibilty a bit?

I hope you do not think me cruel for saying that, but part of the road to recovery with depression is being honest about the problem, only then can you get on the road(sometimes a long one) to getting better.

I wish you well:friends:

ps........sticking a patch on your skin is not the miracle cure......I mean, really think about it!!

Thank you, I'll try to speal to my doctor but he's an old asian man who tends to not understand what I say- he misdiagnosed when I had cancer when I was 14. I know I should change but the doctor's round here and full and waiting times ridiculous. He does see us quick (I'm ill quite a lot as my immune system is f****d) I've changed my tablets about 3 or 4 times, I'm going to try and come off them now.

Thank you- you're right about eating more because of depression, I do that, but since having my son (came off whilst pregnant and psychiatrist changed my tablets after giving birth) my appetite has gone out of control. I'm on venlafaxine or efexor xl. It has terrible side effects and I'm fed up of it. My mom though I was just being greedy, until she changed recently and she couldn't believe just how ill it made her.

I am now seeing a psychologist and cpn to try and help out with my depression. I had cancer when I was 14 and my parents split up before I finished radiotherapy and then had a bitter divorce. Then we had trouble moving house etc so it escalated and when I was 16 I just kinda had a break down. I suddenly started suffering terrible panic attacks, vomiting a lot (I have a phobia of it so it made me worse!) and then the depression started. I changed overnight from being outgoing to just a wreck.

Then I was put on prozac which made me ill, then changed to a different tablet but increased my appetite. I think it was partly over-eating from depression, but mainly the tablets. Since then I've changed 2 times more and each time my appetite has increased.

I'm seeing the psychologist and have told them I just need to completely sort my head out. In the past I've been to councillors and have just kinda said yeah I'm fine and just lied so I literally blurted everything out in my first meeting so am awaiting a 2nd appointment now to come through the post. I know that I need to sort it and am grateful for your honesty.

Thank you- I haven't tried porridge myself, I'll have to give it a go. I tried weetabix this morning with water on it and this sweetener. It tasted so gross. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be having that again!!

I don't usually go out for meals as I panic, but last night I took my diazepam and went out on spur of the moment with my partner and our son. I came back and decided to join slimming world as it's just about 4 doors down from where I live at the local church. I'd been deciding to join since before christmas, so nearly 5 months isn't too bad lol.

Anyway, I sat last night and worked out all the "syns" etc for the day, now yesterday I had 2 bowls of cereal with full fat milk and then went out for that meal which I had half a portion of chips, a chicken burger (without cheese or bacon as my son ate them both and only one out of the 2 chicken portions as again my son nicked it!!) Anyway, I totalled it all up and I'd used 61.5 syns- the most I should have is 15!!!!!! The cereal was 5.5 syns per serving (Well it was probably more but I felt 61.5 was more than enough! and that's without the drinks I had yesterday, ribena some orange tango and 1/2 pint of coca cola).

Anyway, I've worked out my syns for today after literally hours of planning my food pmsl. I was up until gone 1 last night planning and searching for the free foods!! I know I'll get there but it's hard going!! I've got to prove my nan wrong as she keeps putting me down, I told her I'd gone last night and she said "and are you going to stick to it?" (really snotty tone) so I'm trying really hard to prove her wrong!!!

By the way, well done on losing that weight, my target weight at the moment is 18 stone. You've done really well and hopefully I'll have the same success as you.

you will find that if you stick to the sliming world eating plan, it really works. get the slimming world recipe books - they contain lots (and i mean LOTS) of really nice recipes, including lots of syn-free ones. there are separate red and green books (to help you plan your alternate days) as well as soup books (homemade soup is really good to help you with the weight-loss thing), dessert books, snack books, again all these have syn-free recipes, so you can eat as much as you want without feeling guilty. you really have to stick with it - a girl in my work has been on this for almost a year and has lost around five stone - she has been following the plan about 85% - so if you stick to it religously and do some exercise, you could lose all the weight you have put on in a year and a half - remember, you will lose more weight at the start and then the weight loss will start to subside - KEEP AT IT!!! Good luck!

Thank you!! My mom said about the rapid weight loss at the beginning and then it'll slow down so I'm waiting for that. I tried the diest once before when I was 17 and had started putting weight on and lost 7lbs in my first week but then I kinda rebelled and then put on 10lbs in the 2nd week. It then escalated and I didn't go back again!!! Now I've seen myself put on weight in the past 2 weeks and it's scared me just how quickly I've put on weight so I'm going to really try this time. Thank you for your kind words.

don't think of it as a "diet", think of it as an eating plan. If you think "diet" you are more likely to struggle with urges for sweet and fatty foods and feel you have to eat little meals. Thinking of it as an "eating plan" means you can still eat big portions and lots of food to fill you up, but it has to be the right food (syn free).

they're right about your avatar though...

Hi, some good advice so far hope you follow it, switch your full fat milk to skimmed uht milk (creamier taste than normal skimmed) and you will save a hell of a lot of fat intake purely off that, remember...full fat milk has a main purpose of fattening up a calf!!! Exercise is vital also, and not just a slow walk on a treadmill (the body is ultra efficient at walking and it burns VERY little calories) start off with a light jog even if you last only 20 seconds just rest til you have breath back and jog for 25 seconds next time and so on.
Seriously watch your carb intake on an evening(rice, white bread, potatoes pasta) as carbs that are not burnt off will be stored as fat, some may think a nce pasta dish for a late supper before bed is healthy.....not necessarily!!!

cravendale skimmed is the nicest skimmed.....although ive never tried UHT milk..... so cant compare between those 2.....

I agree there cravendale is the nicest milk, no aftertaste. If you like full fat milk but not skimmed or semi skimmed why not try weening yourself onto semi skimmed by mixing half and half for a while slowly mixing more semi skimmed with full fat until you get used to it? Then you can work on having skimmed milk the same way.

Wishing you luck, i start weight watchers tomorrow night arghhhhhh!! Maybe if you PM we can do it together ? :)

I've just bunged it on my list (asda online!!) lol. I've just had my lunch, I didn't have any breakfast as I'd run out of decent stuff lol. Anyway, I had 2 bowyers sausages, 2 slices of wholemeal bread and half a tin of spaghetti and 1 egg. I'd originally put 3 sausages,3 slices of bread,2 eggs and a whole tin of spaghetti assuming that because I'd had no breakfast I'd be starved and would eat it all but I'm really full!! I am so pleased  Also, I got the really light ribena in the raspberry and pomengrante (can't spell it!!) and it's quite strong so you use less squash and more water and it doesn't taste low fat. Also, the bowyers sausages are like cardboard when chewing but are really tasty. I think cos your mouth's working harder it takes you longer to eat and fills you up quicker. :-D

That'd be brilliant. I usually hate brown bread, but on the slimming world the weight watchers danish brown you can have 3 slices (the most out of the breads) and it tasted really nice with spaghetti on it. You really couldn't tell it was brown bread!! :-D

Hiya thanks for your advice!! I know that I've got to stop eating carbs late at night- that's another thing I do. I eat bowls of cereal in the middle of the night. So although I may not have eaten much during the day, it's piling the weight on me as my body's storing the fat (you know when you starve yourself so your body automatically stores the fat assuming it's not going to get fed for a while longer) well my body's doing that from not eating properly, and because my metabolism has slowed down as it's night time.

I did decide to go jogging but I can't find a pair of trainers comfortable, I usually wear doc martens all the time so my feet are used to the width of them. I know Evans might do some, but I prefer to use the catalogue on a buy now pay later thing.

Also, another thing I've been doing- instead of sitting in front of the tv and snacking, or the computer (as my boyfriend hogs it lol) I've been sat of a night watching a film whilst ironing. It gets the job done, I'm really deep in watching the film and because my hands are occupied it means I'm not snacking :-D

I think that's the problem with most people, we hear Diet and it's like we have to rebel against it (what I did before) so then ended up putting on more weight!!! I'm going to do what you said and think of it as an eating plan so then at least I'll feel healthier rather than stuck with rules!!

I agree that we should start a weight loss thread. We could be the world's largest group (in more ways than one lol) that have lost weight together. We could total it up every week at how much weight's been lost. What do you think??

Congratulations on losing a stone, I bet you're feeling a lot better!! I've got about 11 stone to lose altogether, so I'll just have to keep my nose in the food books and keep planning my meals lol.

Have you got a pile of ironing to do? If so, try and iron and watch the tv instead of snacking- it really does work for me because by the time I've done it all I start to feel sick rather than hungry lol
#29
I think a weight loss thread be a good idea. I'm not sure if all would be up for it and wanting to weigh in.
You could have a weigh in day once a week give your results,
I have been trying lose weight but been stressed out past wk or so,and have given up,I went from 12 stone 10lbs to 12 stone 4lbs,so lost 6lbs just by cutting out the rubbish, took about 4 wks. My portion sizes not changed,I must add I'm vegetarian too. So I've been eating the rubbish again and what not and what I lost put back on!
I need to eat better soon as want to have another baby, going start trying in May,so obviously I won't be as strict as some on here, just cutting out rubbish.I won't be reducing the milk to semi skimmed and so on.

You have to remember as well that everyone loses weight differently. I have been losing weight for over a year now and for the longest time, reading a thread like this where people are saying the just cut out junk food and dropped a stone in a month etc would drive me crazy and upset me, because despite eating 1200 calories a day and working out 5 days a week, I am lucky to lose a stone in 4 months - but looking at the bigger picture, I have lost 3 stone 7lbs in the last 13 months, there's nothing bad about that- so don't worry too much about other peoples numbers, just concentrate on your own or else you'll be driven crazy.

dont worry about im the same as u losing weight but slowly, anyone will tell you slowly is the best way as rapid weight loss aint no good for you

diets are bloody hard work...I know how you feel about the sins from slimming world....(Im following the diet but havent been to a class...Im waiting until Im slimmer:oops:) I have cut out all the junk food (ie....everything that tastes nice!!!!) I have lost 15 pounds in a month..but still have about 3 stone to go:x
Good Luck with your diet...hope you find it easier than me

You're doing really well, without going to the class it's easier to give up as you haven't got the support of others around you, so when you're having a bad day, you tend to just carry on the day after having another bad day (well that's what I've found in my experience!!) Hopefully by keep going to classes, it'll get me out the house and meeting new people and boost my confidence too. :-D

Well done on losing so much weight and keep up the hard work. It's difficult but we'll all get there!!!

3 Stone 7lbs in 13 months is really good!! You're going really well, so keep going!! With it taking you longer, you'll more than likely keep it off longer as you've worked so hard, whereas those who lose it quickly tend to get cocky and then eat ****!!! Well done on losing so much weight, you've done really well!!

hey midjet666... i put on weight while i was on a year placement. went from 11 stone to 13.7! i stuck to a normal breakfast, half a sandwich for lunch or 2 pieces of fruit and 1/3 of what i would normally have for dinner. NO snacks, NO sugar(only from fruit) oh and i cut out red meat and dairy... did this like 4months ago and now i'm 11 stone 5 lb! btw i didnt do any exercise so chuck that in and you might get better results.

Only just found your message!! I really haven't got the will power to cut out red meat and dairy!!! I've *touch wood* been doing good on the slimming world diet. I've changed to extra light ribena which tastes like cr*p but I'm determined to keep it up lol.

Another thing, this is a warning to other dieters- if you've not eaten fruit in ages, don't just try and change it quickly and start eating it like you'd eat chocolate!!! I did that, and I've spent the past 2 days in bed with chronic stomach cramps. Today, I'm nursing my poorly stomach (you know how after you get cramp and it's really tender? Well my stomach feels really bruised so I'm all sorry for myself!!)

So yeah, tip of the day- don't eat too much fruit!!! (Just a bit's enough until you're used to it!!)
