The second grey nav bar at top of page is the forum list!

If you want to use it like it used to be nothing has changed! The only thing is that the forum list is gone. However, this forum list is now in the top of page navigation bar. So you can jump to any forum from any page if that's your wish.

The first bar should have All (which is default). Now click on the "forum" you want (like Deals, Vouchers, FS/FT etc). Click on "text only" in the View Options if you want forum style layout. Use the hot, new and discussed tabs to order the posts how you want.

sorry but you cant say nothing has changed !! the whole new... "hot" "new" "disscussed" ectand the fact it takes along time to post/navigate/do anything !!i like change, but i think if its not broke dont fix it :) the site got thousands of hits recently as it was easy to navigate, un like MSE (which this has started to become like !)
[admin]#2
My only critisicm Paul is the grim colour scheme  It's like a gravestone with weeds growing on the top of it...

To those complaining, things have to move on & evolve... "Rolling stones gather no moss"... unless you put glue on a stone and roll it through some moss of course....

I love how everyone is saying how marvellous the site was before, when in reality a lot of people were being affected by the constant server errors. Nobody likes change, but I reckon we'll get used to it! A lot of work has gone into it and it's easy for us to criticise it and ask for a return to the old way.. Let's just give it a chance! :)
[admin]#3
Hi big_anth,

The navigation has actually been simplified. It's very different yes but let's ask how to do the things you want to do rather than call it MSE ;)

The hot, new, discussed all existed before.

Discussed is the way any forum sorts threads, it puts the newly discussed threads at the top.

New is the same as clicking 'view all new threads' in the normal forum. Now you have a big tab just for that. So if you're in a forum section you can flip back and forth between what is being discussed to what has just been posted.

Hot is to do with deals only. It will show you the newest deals that have become hot.
#4
I want to see all the deals as they happen - like it used to be.
I used to click on "Hot DEALS" and there they all were - plain and simple and easy to use.

How do I facilitate that on this ridiculous looking site?

I moved here from MSE which was starting to take ages to load pages - this is happening here now too.
[admin]#5
Thanks juliet_bravo :) I don't think the old layout was that simple actually and the reason we changed is because there was a lot of problems with managing the amount of information coming in. Does everyone already forget the loads of complaints in the comments forum and constant requests for sub-forums?

Today is buggy with performance but we should be able to make this very snappy.

As for colour scheme... we will tweak it or parts of the design.
[admin]#6
Hi Ogre, if you're on the front page just click "Hot". That will show you the hottest deals as they get voted up.
#7
The fact that it is deemed neccessary to tell people how to use the site speaks volumes and immeadiately shows that it isn't as intuitive as before.
#8
My feedback for whichever thread it is meant to go in, can't find things easily yet!!!

Get rid of the rubbish on the right hand side which says how many users on etc, put it at the bottom.

Change all the deals back to generally one line only. Not sure what exactly is the difference here but most deals seem to take up more space and there seems to be less deals per page. The layout of the forum should be how it used to be.

I like the bar at the top for quickly changing between forums.

Change the colours back, or at least give us the option.

Seperate the page numbers you can click, they're all in one block at the mo so difficult to see what page numbers there are etc.

Fix the plus sign which tells you that you posted in that thread. I can't tell which threads I was posting on. Change the forum to include expired deals by default.

If there are any fixes to these that I can do myself please pm me otherwise I'll miss the reply with all these threads!!!

PLUS - Not sure why but I can't seem to tell where I have looked up until when I refresh. e.g. in hot deals I used to refresh every 15 minutes lets say and all the new posts would be in bold and when I scrolled down at some point they would stop being bold therefore I knew that was where I had last looked therefore nothing new to see. Maybe it still does that but I haven't got used to it yet.

Update:

I also would like to be able to choose the page of the thread I want to go into from the start rather than from the first page, ie I usually press last page when entering a thread so that I can see what is being discussed now rather than ages ago. Now I have to go to the first page then click the last page (which is looking funny atm) which I'm sure must put more of a strain on the server, as well as my mouse etc!

I like that the first post of the thread is on top of all pages so that it can be easily referred to, would be nice if someone kept the first post regulary updated with important info realised in the thread to save everyone having to trawl through the whole thread to find it out.

ie if an important t&c would be found on page 10 then if people could add that to the first post so everyone can see it easily without having to trawl the whole thread. Hope that makes sense!!!
[admin]#10
Yes that's the idea Benjimoron as any member with some rep can edit the first post. That way if stuff changes on page 10 as you say it can easily be added to that first post and read by everyone no matter which page they are on.

And yes putting in a jump to last post button is on the list.

Cool (as long as people actually do it!!!)

What about the rest of the stuff???

Also, how about automatically putting the price on the forum view, ie rather than relying on everyone to put the price in the title it could be automatic (may be on the left hand side in a coulom next to the heat picture thingy to the left of every thread?)

Nothing worse than seeing something that you like the sound of but when you go in it's a rubbish price, would save the hassle of loading up another page. Not that would take alot of time but when the site is running slow it's very annoying!!!
#12
i dont like the colour scheme, the rest i think i can get used to lol
#13
The misc forum is called deals in the title bar.

The dates are the wrong way round in the last post bit.

The search results come out in a strange order? I expected them to come out in last post order (maybe I have to do advanced search?)

No lines seperating people's posts, I prefer some kind of line between people's posts to see who has posted what more easily, I know it's fussy but it was alot easier on the eye.

Quoted for truth. At least fix the colours and random font sizes. I can't see how this was ever deemed fit for purpose.

Sweet thats the button I miss most. Also Paul somewhere along the line if at all possable could we incorprate a link at the bottom of the page to go back to the post lists (does that make sense) just saves scrolling all the way up to the top of a post to click on the tab. Lazy I know :-D

Admin, can you help? where have the blue little ticks gone which tell us we've posted in a thread - i used to find this relly helpful when scrolling down - could check back easily. also, when you click on someone's name to say 'see other posts' it doesn't show you them - it takes you to some odd search thing which just gives you lots of threads, not ones which have necesarrily been written in - help! have they gone forver or am i just blind?
#20
Would like to see custom check/tick boxes instead of the current way of selecting what you want. For example Id like to be able select Computers, Electricals, Entertainment along with Deals, Vouchers, Freebies. Then another time Id just like Groceries with Deals and Vouchers. There would of course have to be abutton to apply the changes at the end of the rows, just one for both. Also clicking on the options text would act like it does now and select that one only clearing your boxes and going diretctly to it.

Just MHO.
#21
The hottest deals part on the right hand side is pointless too, forever it'll be nintendo wii at the top and no-one will ever look there. Maybe it could be hottest deal posted today or in the last 24 hours or something?
suspended#22
Managed to get myself here to type this after much wondering around & getting lost.:)
I don't get anymore emails about deals & when i tried to edit it in my control panel i get logged out.The text is way to small for my eyesight when typing this.My wife could navigate the old one without a problem but she gave up this new look after about 15 mins and said its rubbish. No offence to anyone but this is not looking to good.
#23
Bloody hell!

I tried to post about how the site only needs a few design tweaks but got an error and lost my post.

That is not cool!
#24
I don't understand how everyone's saying the text in the reply box is tiny...it's fine on both my Firefox 2.0.0.11 as well as IE6...does this problem occur in IE7?

Click "text only" at the top right of the home page.

Perhaps view in your user control panel instead (link at very top of page) - i use this all the time - shows the exact same thing.

Was brought up this morning, I think admin may have fixed it in the meantime.

I've done that but most deals are on two lines now rather than one because of the rubbish on the right hand side. If that was moved then it'd look alot better.

Do you mean that the icon won't be returning to show that we've posted in a particular thread? That was a really useful part of the site, how do you mean do it from the control panel?
banned#27
After all todays negative comments, have we learn't a lesson?....Would it not make sense to publish the new design on a sub-site and let long standing members comment on 'tweaks' before issuing it into the general domain. I realise that the IT department there clearly run the show, but surely the users are those most important asset to make this site work?

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/usercp.php

^^ This shows all your subscribed threads, which is the exact same as before. Just all in one list, instead of down the forums.

Mine shows nothing!!!

Which surely means I've never posted in a thread???

I like to be able to look through the forums and easily see which threads I have posted in, rather than check a seperate section just to be able to see this.

Surely the icon is returning???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I agree:thumbsup:

And the text in the reply to thread box is still tiny!:x

The arrow (thought it was a plus sign b4) re-appeared for a while so I assume it's going back in. Only some posts let me skip to the first unread post, not sure why.
It's still showing all threads as bold no matter how far you go back. ie if I go back passed where I refreshed they are all still bold. They used to stop being bold at the point I refreshed so I knew there was no point reading on as I'd looked through it already. Nice to have something in place that tells you where you've read to. Hope that makes sense???
#32
Oh, and preferred when it used to say today, yesterday etc in the thread list. Now it says 2 hours ago etc, I don't like it.
[admin]#33
The arrow showing you posted in a thread should be back now. This is the same icon as before.

If you click on the username in the last post that takes you to the last post. This is how the old forum worked too.

Great news, thanks Paul. That's everything I wanted in and a couple of other things I guess I'll get used to. Just difficult to see where you've read up to atm, does that make sense Paul?

Maybe clicking the username part might need relaying to the masses as I never used the old forum like that. I would've thought clicking a username would do something relevant to that person (ie pm or something), so if someone hasn't used it before they're unlikely to try it like me and keep looking for the last page button that they always used.

Don't mind doing it by clicking the username just think most people won't know about it.

On the subject of all the old posts being in bold too, I used to be able to look at the time, ie if I last refreshed at 9am then I could look down until I saw a post at 9am and I would know that everything after that is old news. That is very difficult now as they all say 5 minutes ago etc so I'd have to work out how long until I last refreshed and then look back that many minutes etc and then I'd know all the rest is old. BUT because there is no time (just 5 minutes ago etc) then it's very difficult to see when you last refreshed???

That's a good idea, maybe a sticky with the latest updates?, it would save you and the mods explaining things repeatably for all day
#37
Saying how many hours ago someone has last posted in a thread isn't as useful as the actual timestamp the last post was...will this be changed?

Combined with a PM ALL pointing everyone to it, just in case it's in the misc forum and some people don't check in there. And stickies don't tend to get many hits as people ignore them in favour of the other posts. Maybe people think they're boring info or it's a sub-concious thing, personally I don't think I'd notice a sticky saying "must read me" without some sort of PM or something to prompt me.

You've got my vote!!!

That's what I've been trying to explain, does my post make sense??
#40
Also, I think it'll be useful to be able to see all MY very own posts in descending order of posted time, i.e. I used to type in http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/search.php?do=finduser&u=21380 to see a list of all MY posts...

whereas now, I have to go through that "advanced search" every single time to see my posts, and I'm not even sure what order they're in! I'd prefer them to be sorted according to MY posts rather than other people's posts...just like how it used to be...
