Scottish news having a rant about the newly published thomas cook pocket guide to glasgow..

The guide tells visitors to expect sectarianism, violence, depravation, drunkenness and drug abuse.

How quaint!

exactly-wonder if such things are in the london/liverpool/manchester etc guide? just makes me laugh when the Scottish bbc news wheel out all these people who are "mortally offended" by this book-as a Glaswegian I know these are isolated things and we have no more bad areas,or problem violence than many cities-wouldnt stop me visiting any of them.

this isnt beirut!

To be honest reading the exerts from the guide there is very little to be offended about as most of what is said is true. I think the only thing different between Glasgow and the majority of other cities in Britain is sectaranism. I don't know if it is at all rife outside Glasgow.

You've never heard of issues with Sectarianism from other cities in the UK, granted it's mostly racism? Oldham, Bradford, London etc

I think its a fair assessment, its a dive. Like the UK version of Paris...after the scene from Armageddon where part of an asteroid has decimated it. I have never been ANYWHERE with as bad a drug problem...its was like 'spot the non-crack head'

Edinburgh is nice though

I think every city has big problems - the same problems. In Manchester this week we saw a guy knocking hell out of his girlfriend and no one was doing a thing to stop it - we shouted stuff out of the car window at him and he finally stopped - but that sort of thing happens everywhere as does the drugs n stuff.

Yeah it can be used to describe most major cities to a point. The difference being that Glasgow has few redeeming features whereas most other Cities have a lot to offer. Mine's on a par with Glasgow mind.

Yes i have heard about racism and bigotry in other parts of the UK, but the article is talking about religious sectarianism not racism.

Am i being serious about not knowing if religious sectarianism is rife in other cities in Great Britain? Yes i genuinely don't know as i haven't heard much about it.

Thread will be tidied...

Worth noting though, from the BBC quoting Thomas Cook.

The guide concludes: "Large crowds of Rangers and Celtic supporters are probably best avoided on match days."

Yet these guys are both linked with Celtic and Rangers re Hospitality. Time to change providers I reckon.

Drift off topic or get personal again, both of you can have the weekend to reflect.
