Just a word of warning ...

I ordered an Ipod touch 16gb off the net cause I got a works bonus and thought i'd get myself an early birthday present.
Waited in all day yesterday for it because I knew DHL were gonna deliver it that day.
Bloke turned up at about 4.30 with my parcel and handed it to me and asked me to sign. Yeah, I know I should have checked it first - and yes I am too trusting!! I put the parcel down to sign and he went (in a rush like they always are).
I realised when i picked up the parcel that it was open underneath so quickly looked inside. Guess what ... no Ipod.
Absolutely fuming I jumped in my car and tried to find the t***er but he'd long gone. So anyway, I ring DHL who say as I'm not the customer I have to contact who I bought it off (Dixons) and get them to ring - which I do.
I've just rang Dixons again this morning and they've said DHL have had a word with the driver and its my word against his, and he says the package was untouched when he delivered it to me. Dixons have been really good and are still investigating it but it doesnt look promising. I'm just sooo p***ed off coz now i'm £200 out of pocket!!

when you get anything of a delivery driver always but unchecked next to signature as this does help if product is damaged or missing
#2
That is disgraceful! Was the package sealed? maybe Dixons sent an empty case by mistake.
#3
I;m expecting a parcel today, but i'm like you i never check the delivery i just sign as i think that i would be wasting dhl time.

Maybe i should now
#4
OH NO!!! HUn, that's horrid!! I'd call the police if they just fob u off or at least tell them that's wot ur gonna do. Sorry hun, u were all excited yesterday too :friends:
#5
Yeah, I know what I should have done, believe me I have now learnt my lesson.
The package was sealed but ripped open underneath. The contents were definately inside when they got put on the van, and definately not when they got to me!!!

sorry but even writing unchecked sometimes does not cover you, i do a lot of multi drop and do advise people not to sign unchecked unless it is on there website to do so, as you are not covered.
#7
Gutted, we should all check things before we sign for them but we don't. Good warning to others and me!
#8
Really sorry to hear this Cassie hope you can get it sorted xx
#9
I just cant believe how dishonest someone can be!!! I work hard for my money NOT to have some theiving ba****d nick it from me!
He actually handed it to me with the rip underneath so I didnt see!
#10
Don't even hang about, get the police to investigate it. Remember, you haven't committed a crime, but by all accounts it sounds like someone else has - that is what the police are for!

Good luck :)
#11
dont ever let the driver say"just sign unchecked its ok," total carp, always check it, it dosnt matter how long it takes its money your going to lose.
#12
That's terrible... I'll be sure to check all parcels in future!

Also did you pay by credit card? If so, contact their customer services and explain, they should also have an obligation to investigate any fraud and should withhold the charge...

If you catch him. give him a slap from me

Think most Visa debit cards are also covered - not Maestro unfortunately. Don't write the money off just yet, once police are involved there is a good chance you will get the money back...

Guilty until proven innocent?
#22
what area are you in, when could all join in the hunt, hey i hope he's a member on he would be carping him self now
#23
If you were to check a parcel before signing and it's either busted or not there would you just hand it back to the driver and not sign?
#24
There are a few people that handle a parcel before it's put in your hands, it could have gone from any part of the process, so i wouldn't jump straight in and accuse the driver. I know it's a high possibility it was him, but not 100%.

What a bladdy nightmare hun, hope you get your money back :(

Did a google search for 'DHL stolen ipod' and it seems DHL in America had a bad reputation for sticky fingers a couple of years back with ipods.

And here's me always thinking it was Citylink who came top of the heap for shifty deliveries.

He's based at the Ipswich depot.

I've just rang the police and they are gonna investigate also. They asked me if i minded it being in the paper so I told them go ahead! I just want him to be questioned about it, even if i dont get it back it may stop him from doing it to someone else

My card is a visa debit so I'm now gonna look into that.

Thanks so much guys for all your help/advice.

Does this mean more than one person could have reported a stolen item?

Police smash local delivery theft ring!

Aparently the parcel was security checked before hand by DHL - so it was definately taken by him.

I remember a couple of years back reading about a postie in Australia who was found to have hundreds of stolen DVD's in his house he had pilfered.

Chances are if it was the delivery man he was banking on whomever he ripped off not contacting the Police. He's in for a surprise. :-D

I know you both equally well. So neither. I certainly wouldn't jump one way or the other.
