Reading through the forums, Is it that hard for people to use the right one?
There = referring to a place
Their = belonging to someone
They're = contraction of they are

sorry - not a good night's sleep last night!!!

:x

(Don't get me started on text speak!)

You're not going to be able to stop all grammatical errors (not with over 30k members!) but it can be annoying, but that's life.

We could appoint a grammar mod, who has the ability to edit posts, and their sole task is to fix bad grammar and spelling...

CHEEKY **** - that is me on a good day!!

They'd need to be an army of insomniacs to edit every post to perfection.

Should add a 2nd rep bar - Grammatical Accuracy :P
If you go in the red you have to get mod pre-approval.

Neither do I, but then that's me. I know loads of people who just don't understand it. Whether that's their own fault for not caring or whether they just can't grasp the concept, we'll never know.
#18
Maybe we should turn this into a poll?

Know the difference
Didn't / don't know the difference
Couldn't care less

& huh?

Know the correct usage + use.
Know but too lazy to use.
Know + couldn't care less.
Don't know, but would if I did.
Don't know, don't care.
I Deliberately do it.

^ ideas for options in a poll?
#20
I deliberately do it

Brilliant!

I tend to use the correct version apart from when it comes to they're - I hardly ever add ' to a word. I will generally say they are though anyway

Have to say that it doesnt bother me when people use the wrong version, this is supposed to be a fun site where people can relax, not worry about their grammar.

Now that is probably one of the best suggestions I have ever seen(Mods & Admin take note), I know I have had a moan about this subject and got the usual response but I am sure if you read the wrong thing enough times you will start to use the wrong thing in time, grrrrrrrrr

You have earned yourself a gold star, a week at the front of the class AND some well deserved rep. Your parents must be very proud of your achievements this year :giggle:
#24
I would rather that someone used the wrong version of a word than WROTE EVERYTHING IN CAPITALS - that bugs me.....
#25
WHY IS THAT ANNOYING? :P

Kind of like shouting but hey better than "eye fink dis is a wel gud del. y is eye not getin da rep 4 it?"
#26
That is annoying, but dont really think that different versions of there is too bad.

one sentance of caps lock isnt too bad, but when its a couple of lines it bugs me!

Moved it over to suggestions forum here for a little more serious discussion.

I got flamed about bringing this subject up on another forum. It is because of conditions like dyslexia, like heck it is!

Still nothing can stop my good mood this morning, i'm on top of the world!

Yeah make words fun and help others by suggesting the use of spell checkers [like IESpell for example].

I dont like reading deals and comments where absolutely no punctuation is used whatsoever and it makes it really difficult to understand exactly what is being said it is so easy to use a comma or full stop or start a new paragraph and I dont see why people cant do this it just means that the reader has to keep going back and rechecking what they have just read to make sure theyve caught the point of the comment it is especially annoying when lettres are bakc to frotn in adittion to this and wen lettesr sre put in the rong plaec adn wen txt tk is used 2 say sumthng imprtnt as it detracts from the meening of teh comment n makes rdin a simple sentence A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE.... Personally speaking, i am more saddened than irritated by poor spelling. However working with a dislexic, i have learnt to be more tolerant of an individuals shortcomings with grammer. What really grips me though, is constant and deliberate text talk. It takes so much longer to read, and is rarely much quicker to write - just a personal opinion mind:thinking:

Talking about grammar... I am struggling to find correct plural form for words Lexus and Prius. Should it be Lexuses and Priuses or Lexii and Prii? So far no one was able to help :(
If it were Latin words then it surely should be Lexii and Prii but it is just a brand name with kind-of-Latin pronunciation. Any advice?

Yeah, kind of like walking into Lexus dealership and saying "I want two of these things!" :)

Do you even add anything - if you were speaking of possessions for example, would it not be - Miles' book ? *stands back and waits for a good slating:whistling:*

Slate slate slate, you've been slated. ;-)

I would not mind if it read Mile's book or Miles' book because the spelling allows you to know what the person means, but if they put Myles instead, well ....... are we still talking about the same person???
