Things to do in Ashbourne/Matlock

Hey,

Me and OH are off to Ashbourne and Matlock next week, only for a couple of nights. Just to have a look around the area etc.

Were planning on some nice walks, maybe a bike ride etc (so if you have any good suggestions, that'd be good!)

However, weather forecast is potentially SNOW! So, trying to look into some alternatives because we want to go regardless. But the websites advertising the area are pretty pants and I'm struggling at the moment!

Anyone got any suggestions?!

woo! live in Ashbourne!

tis pretty boring imo, but i'm a 17year old...

if you want to go on a bike ride, start off in Ashbourne and head down the tissington trail. lots of nice villages to stop off and look at.

alton towers open?

some nice shops...

loads of pubs!

snow can be good weather for a walk!

Tissington Trail is where we were thinking of heading, either by bike or foot. Bit cold for snow though!

Dovedale is well worth a visit. The path follows the river for around 3 miles in the valley ending up in a little village called Milldale. Path is a bit up and down with stone steps that can be slippy so wedhere decent walking boots. And if you are feeling energetic there is a walk to the top of Thorpe Cloud.

I went to Matlock a few years ago and enjoyed the Heights of Abraham.

The geology around there is amazing.

Pop on over to Chez Vegas (Chesterfield) and say hello to me lol

You gotta go on the heights of Abraham cable cars for the experience and view.

You got young ones? If so Gullivers Kingdom is pretty good for under 8 or so. If you do get the lift to the top and work your way down its hell the other way, very steep.

You could always go to Bakewell if you're in the mood for a tart :-)

Matlock is nice to walk around although the heights of abraham are quite expensive i reckon. If the weathers good enough the tissington trail is spot on. Its an old railway line so is flat and totally suitable for bikes and pushchairs

Matlock Bath + Summer Sundays (or any sunny sunday) + hundreds of bikers = Great sight, there is row after row of bikes all lined up kerbside everything from Japanes Pocket rockets to high powered sports bikes, custom streetfighters, custom softails/hardtails, custom trikes, Harleys, goldwings the full diverse works, dont worry about all the Hells Angels about get speaking to them they are as a whole sound guys and gals, there is very little trouble as all the bikers police themselves as they all know that any trouble would bring police attention and in future clamped down on ruining it for all, so first signs of aggro the others stop it.

Dovedale is lovely - and there is a great auction house in Hope (not sure if it is still there?)

Nice cycling route around Carsington too, although it does have some very short, steep inclines which can be hard work to get up.
