Things to do in N.Ireland

Going on holiday on Friday to N.I. with the kids - away for two weeks and I'm looking for things to occupy the kids' time. In England we use http://www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk, but it only covers maindland UK.

Does anybody know of a similar site for Northern Ireland? Or point me in the right direction for fun things to do with the kids? They're 1 and 4, and we'll be in County Down, with access to a car.

Any help repped and grately appreciated!

Thanks!

i find it hard to recommend things for kids so young - but ulster folk and transport museum cultra - portaferry aquarium - mount stewart - castle espie bird reserve - w5 - belfast zoo are attractions that i think are prob best suited to kids. a lot of our attractions are mostly based on history / walking and not best suited to young kids, i hope you have a good time and that the weather is ok...

See if where you are going has a tourist information centre.

I find the ones in the UK really useful when I arrive at an area as they can give you local maps plus hints of things to do.

Never used the ones in NI, but here is a web page that says where they are:

A quick search in Google for "Northern Ireland Kids" (which is easy to do !) turned up this site:

One thing I would recommend is the Giant's Causeway, the kids will love exploring around the columns and there are lots of wee 'folk stories' about certain formations and stuff that should keep them interested. It's a beautiful area too so the views are fantastic along the cliff path.

I was going to say the Giant's Causeway - I'm from Northern Ireland and I can guarantee kids will love it there. There is also the Carrickrede (I think that's what it's called) rope bridge nearby, not sure what age you have to be to go on it, but very thrilling! if you don't mind heights. Gorgeous views around and seaside towns with lots to do for kids. We used to love Bangor, Co. Down when we were kids. Strangford Lough (featured on Coast) isn't far from Belfast. We crossed it on the ferry.

Check out venues at www.kidsroar.com

The website gives ideas on places to take the kids and if you purchase a Roar Card for £15 you can save over £250 with free child entry and meals in over 60 venues across Northern Ireland.
Valid until the end of Dec 2009. It give you plenty of time to use it.
