Think Friend maybe making a big mistake

So friend meets someone and decides shes the one for him, wants to get married to her asap, bit of a whirlwind thing.

A quick google of her name brings up a shop lifting conviction. I tactfully brought the subject up, he says he knows, shes told him, one of her friends stole her identity and pretended she was her, even went to court pretending it was her, said shes gone back to court or something and has cleared her name, im not so convinced!

He is absolutely smitten by her, what shall i do? Worried for him

You have to concern yourself with being a supportive friend, whilst you have your own feelings and interpretations of the relationship, your friend has his own too. Leave him to find his own way, and advise and support where you can.

In my experience the more you do the more he will want to marry her.
Be happy for him ( and let him make his mistakes )
That way you can be there for him when it all goes wrong
( if it does )

It's only a shop lifting conviction. :o

I'd understand if she was some murderer. lol

google can find criminal convictions now?!

Personally I would say theres nothing you can do, if hes totally smitten nothing you say will change his mind and you'll probably end up pushing him away if you start saying this girl hes so besotted with isn't 'suitable'. I would leave well alone, keep your fears for him to yourself and just be there for him should it all go belly up.

Thing is, it seems like she lies about quite a few things, but he doesnt see it. I've let it be, don't really want to intefere, he knows im here for him in good times and bad
#6
if you have told him how you feel then you have to back off-tell him you still feel the same way but for his sake you will be pleasant in her company etc..if not you will lose him as ultimately if he feels that deeply for her he will be forced to choose. You are better being their if/when it goes belly up?

you best of leaving it be, and maybe find your own bird/bloke to fill your time instead of credit checking your m8's partner bit over the top dont you think?? is shoplifting an offence that means you can never be married lol

Um, I think you lot are missing the point about the shoplifting thing. Here -

A quick google of her name brings up a shop lifting conviction. I tactfully brought the subject up, he says he knows, shes told him, one of her friends stole her identity and pretended she was her, even went to court pretending it was her, said shes gone back to court or something and has cleared her name, im not so convinced!

Ignore the shoplifting thing, look at the bit after it. She didn't do it herself, she says, instead, it was one of her friends who *stole her idenity*, even to the point that she went to court under the guise of girlfriend, but it was okay, because girlfriend went back to court and cleared it all up. Okay, right.

This tells you one of two things:

a) The girl is a hideous, hideous liar (seriously, wtf? Went to court, said "Oh, it's okay, look, I'm me, she's fine, it's okay!", what?)
b) She is the sort of girl whose friends are are the sort of scum that would steal someone they're supposed to care about's idenity, causing them great detriment

So either we've got a delusional madwoman, or someone who seems quite at ease to associate herself with utter scum. Lily, I'm with you on this one.

when googling my name it states I'm inside for 6 years after an attack on a young girl!

when I google my name it tells me I started DJing in the late 60's (before I was born!) and that I'm an international minister! pleasingly my personal website comes up 5th out of 6.5 million results! quite chuffed with that!

Thanks for all your replies. I actually didnt google the girl to do any kind of credit check, its a long story but my friend wanted me to check a video link thing as she was making a speech somewhere and he wanted me to see her, what she looked like etc, as i hadnt met her. So when i typed in her name in google it brought something up from a local newspaper on who was at the magistrate court. Not only that but the lie she made up to cover her tracks were absolutely far fetched. My friend has chosen to believe this, and im going to keep my nose out, going to let things be, i dont know if hes being stupid here, or whether he likes her so much he wants to believe her.

As for the posts about me fancying him, no way. We are very good friends and thats all. Hes a really nice guy and he deserves someone nice, but all too often he gets taken for a ride.

I've decided not to do anything more about this, he's a grown man, and if she continues to lie, she will probably trip up.

If you push it then you may lose your friend, keep an eye on the situation but keep it to yourself, and if it all goes wrong just be there for them, thats all you can do.
