Was driving to reigate this evening and my mate was in front and he dissappeared so tried to keep up and there was this car in front of me when i was doing 40 ( was 40 limit) so i shifted into the other side of the road and floored it to go past him - then realised i was going almost 55mph and as i overtook him i saw the familiar lines on the road and thought sheet - must have been doing 60 , i drive an auto so flooring it gives me really quick speed

So im really nervous that i got flashed i went back the same way home but couldnt see a camera - just wondering how long it takes for the ticket to arrive and how many points would i get on my license or even a court summons ( work for the police so not great)

have you already got points?
suspended#3
Hopefully it was a swivel camera facing the other side of the road
Could of been a camera just being put up or taken down.

10 day wait i say
#4
Think its 6 points now. £80 fine or summit.

It was a sorta countryside road - fingers crossed eh otherwise im f00ked possibly lose my license

2 weeks to come through, 3 points and a £60 fine.
#7
the letter come quite quickly id say within the week
#8
Depends on the speed too - 60 in a 40 is pushing it a bit. If nothing arrives within 14 days you're probably alright (although what with the post as it is at the moment maybe add a few more days!)

If its within 2 years of your test I think its a 6 point fine, otherwise 3, if its a normal speeding fine.
Edit - no, I'm wrong, its 3 points but if you get more than 6 your license is revoked at others have said...
#9
I just watched an Evo go through a speed camara not 10 mins ago I bet he's gutted aswell :p
So don't worry your not the only one :whistling:
#10
3 points and a smallish fine, u got poits already :? remember if uve had ur liscense for less than 3 years and u get more than 6 points u will have ur liscence revoked
#11

doing 60 in a 40 zone.... well if you get your licence revoked dont you think you should be deserving that? dont give yourself its an auto blah blah blah, if its your car you should know the capabilities, if it isnt, you shouldnt be driving that fast with an unfamiliar car (in fact you shouldnt be driving tha fast full stop).

Edit: Oh i forgot your original excuse to break the law and possibly endanger other people "because i couldnt catch up with my friend" :x
#18
i think it was either on the A242 OR A23

You just reminded me I got caught (I think) speeding today. Coppers volvo was parked in a layby with the camera thing at the back, I was only doing 70ish on a national speed limit dual carriageway. But was in a Vivaro so limit is 60mph not 70. Forgot about that till now

A 40 zone is generally a dangerous area to be speeding on, either twisty roads or entering/exiting a town/village. Your more likely to knock someone than something @ these kind of zones so yes you are correct i dont speed thro 30-40 zones. If people want to go fast fair enough, do it somewhere more remote and alone, just dont cause other people grief and possible loss in lives because of ones "spirited" drive (or stupidity depending on driver).

FYI I dont go fast on the roads i dont know, I've never gotten ANY points on my back since i've been driving for +5 years. It doesnt mean i drive slow, it just means i know my surroundings enough not to get caught, OR have an accident with anyone AND know when to back off.

Alas, I didnt say I've never had an accident so no-ones perfect. But we all live and learn :)

Patrol car? usually go after you if there going to pull you over for speeding. Don't think they can issue a ticket through the system for them, been speeding before past them never got a ticket?

 before you pass your test you learn how to drive, after you pass your test you learn to how avoid idiot drivers/people.

Speed alone is not the issue (per say), cars are very safe now with TCS, assisted braking, blah blah blah, coping with environment at speed is unfortunately the downfall, and that cant really be fixed with technology (yet), it still needs the driver to understand his/her limit of anticipating the environment aswell as the cars.

Yup, if its one of those vans however.. its a different story. But back to police pulling people over, sometimes they are very 'persuasive' to make you say the wrong things e.g. "not in full control of your car at the time", "wasnt aware of your surrounds nearly causing an accident" etc.

Got pulled over once, as police didnt see the whole thing they assumed the worse, pulled me over and attempted to interrogate me to say I was in wrong, I wasnt really having any of it as I knew exactly what I was doing (non law breaking), stood my ground with reasoning and they didnt really have anything else to say then we went our separate ways.. to be fair though the car then did attract attention somewhat.. So as expected really..

 no not arrogant, Im sure you can transfer your understanding of karts/racing into day to day driving. Perhaps look into advance driving too I've dabbled a little with IAM.

However, learning to avoid an accident on the circuit im sure will be different to on the public roads. because as you prob know, idiots can drive too unfortunately.. and they will do illogical things to possibly upset your day.

Heck, playing in public is totally different on the track, people are crazy enough to use their cars to nudge you off, purely of spite. hypothetically speaking ofc, I've never raced on public roads. :)

got caught 'speeding' by an unmarked cop car on a dual carriageway.. cop car had no camera or owt..just waved us to the side, claimed we were doing upto 115mph on a 70mph road.. jotted down stuff in his notebook and off he went after quoting a NIP..we thought the policemn was putting the scarers on us and forgot abt it. that was in june. got a summons a fortnight ago.. shocked!

disputing the claims.. solicitor is on the case..

after doing research, i read that the officials can fine etc upto 6months after the date of offence

good luck mate!

So instead of learning by your mistakes and dismissing the fact that you are putting us all at risk you will be putting all your efforts into beating the system, researching 'get out clauses' and employing solicitors. Drive at what speed you like and then refuse to play the game when you get caught.
#34
If you didn't see a camera and there were no flashes then I doubt you've been caught, the lines on the road may be there for a speed camera that was in place previously and removed.

As others have mentioned it's a 14 day wait for the police to get a NIP to you if you're the registered owner of the vehicle and haven't changed any of your details recently. Penalty would depend on the exact speed although it probably would be eligible for a fixed penalty which is 3 pounds and £60 fine, if not it would be a summons to court. *if* you do get a NIP and looking for advice I highly recommend http://forums.pepipoo.com

I'm a bit puzzled about your comment on your auto giving you really quick speed as autos are usually slower than their manual counterparts.

:? err, helloo..
the police claim we were going at 115mph. there's no WAY we were going that fast. 110% sure of it- which is WHY we are consulting a solicitor. Plus, this thread isn't mine so I wont start quibbling over the facts of the matter as it's being dealt with by someone who can help without implying that we're guilty without even knowing the full story.. My point was- that the time limit for a fine etc to be issued is 6months...cos it took abt 5months for the CPS to actually put something in writing about out 'alleged' offence

I think the OP means autos have this tendency to go fast but doesn't feel it when you floor it, until you look at the speedo.. lol

The six month time limit is simply for the CPS to lay the information with the courts, even the initial summons can be eight or more months after the offence never mind the actual conclusion. As you got a verbal NIP, the normal rules for a postal NIP don't apply.

It's just I find the opposite with auto's, with the foot down if they're in a normal mode it may unsettle them plus it may short shift. In a manual however you're immediately pushed up through the rev range until you let go or shift up.

You're right, it is a very long time - quite often I see people think they've got off with it only to get the summons at a much later date, seven to eight months after the offence is not unusual unfortunately and there's absolutely no paperwork in between once they've confirmed identity.
