Thinking of going all in with Virgin Media

I'm contemplating giving Sky up and going all in with Virgin for the whole package...HDtv, internet and phone.
Anyone got any advice? My current ISP is with Be broadband (whom Im extremley happy with) but with the credit crunch kicking in cutbacks need to be made.
I have checked the Virgin website and its say's i can get upto 50 meg broadband speed.... but in saying that i have read a few reviews and they have been slated.

What do you guys think??

thanks, was looking at the v+ service. the only real stumbling block is the bb...

I dropped Sky when I moved into a cable area and have absolutely no regrets, we don't have the sky sports/movies package, the V+ on demand stuff beats the sky anytime by a mile...... just my penneth.
As for the BB we run 4 pcs and an xbox off it and the only time we get a slowdown is when my uploads are ragging the connection, depends what the internet is to be used for ;)

are there any sky channels you can't get with Virgin? wasn't there an issue a while back you couldnt't get SKY 1 or something.
would have a look at if able to get all channels as sick of slow BT broadband :p

Only gripe I have with virgn is that every amendment to any part of your package even if in 10 months Time, they automatically sign u up for another year, but don't clarify this with u when u do it.

Bit underhand, but saying that, I'm not unhappy with what I get for the price I pay...

The bb has had pretty poor reviews...thats the only reason I'm a bit hesitant in signing up.

I love the BB, get full speed 99% of the time but I hate traffic management, it can make downloading a pain.

I have L TV (with V+), XL BB (20mb) and XL Phone.. i'm happy with all 3 services.

Any ideda if i sign up upto the 50 meg speed what sort of speed will i average? I'm roughly about 1.5km from the local exchange.

6 Mb per second on newsgroups, but on 50mb ur limited by how fast places can send u the files rather than the other way round, 50mb is unlimited too, 20 and lower don't download till after 9 pm if u want more than a gig or two or they turn u down to 20%

good idea, vm are great, never had many probs,only with v+ box but they send an engineer out within days... all good

Well yes,

10 meg = 1.2
20 = 2.4
50 = 6.0mb/s (6000kb/s)

Im really happy with my services from virgin, also get bb and did have problems but since they repulled the cable all has been great, they dont charge you £9 a month extra like sky do as its all built in (incase you didnt know) to the v+ box (im getting mine on sunday, whoop whoop)
admitidly they dont have as many channels as sky hd but hang fire because they will have :)
dont forget to go through quidco or topcashback and try and be refered by a friend as you each get £30 (hint hint:lol:)

Sky 1 is available on VM as is espn sports for free

BB is excellent and you get a free netgear router when you sign up and may also qualify for free netbook if offer still on.

i considered leaving but looking into it was too much hassle for the same packages and the same prices or even less

Sky also charge you igf there is a fault with your sky+ box but virgin replaced my box last month when it went faulty

cheers for the info - free repair is interesting, my sky box went wrong a couple of years ago and they just about -- gave me a new box free but had to sign up for 18 months...

Like others, I have been very happy with Virgin.
I started out with Sky+ BT line and Virgin Mobile but what started the transfer was the BB. I could only get 512KB if I was lucky but I was expected to play the full whack.
Off I went to Virgin and got there 10MB. What difference that was. Am now on 20MB and waiting till December/January to get 50MB as that's when my contract is up.

I now have V+, XLTV, L phone 20 MB BB and I also have two Virgin Contracts aside from the main bundle.

Do I miss Sky? No. I do miss the slick interface of the software used by Sky on there plus boxes as the V+ can get a bit muddled and hang a while but thats a bug.
Video on demand is a real life saver and is great for those times when nothing is on.
The picture quality via the V+ box is so much better than Sky with normal SD broadcast (IMHO) and as for HD, well that's just eye candy! Yes you don't get as many HD channels as Sky but then what we have is enough (though I wish Discovery HD would get a move on!) and the extras we get far out weighs what Sky can offer.
