I am not a massive online gamer, its mainly FIFA usually and most of the time its against my brothers anyway!

shall I do it? I am thinking that I can sell my xbox for £130 (got 4 games, two wireless pads, 5 months of live), or am I likely to sell it for less than that?

Why not ask your brothers to buy '360 consoles instead?

FYI: I recently compiled a list of some "PS3 Exclusive" titles (on Blu-ray disc, rather than available as a download from the PlayStation Network).

You may find something else to tempt you.

As for a second-hand price for your console/bundle... it is only worth what people are prepared to pay for it.

Why not trade-in the console & a single wireless pad (only) to GAME(Station) in order to buy the PS3 & sell the second pad & games here at HotUKDeals?

Tbh wouldn't bother. Easier to buy stuff for xbox to play 4-player.

PS3 is an entertainment system, Xbox is a gamers machine.

what is the main difference in online play? Xbox is supposed to be a lot better (but then it does cost £30 a year!), also the PS3 being wireless would be an added bonus

None - Free was the whole reason the Ps3 was better. Feels the same on most things.

Buy Wireless adaptor. £30 up.

thanks for that

one of my brothers had an Xbox 360 elite and sold it last month, he only played FIFA on it as he didn't have time to play anything else

I'll check with game about their trade in price, so you think selling them seperatly might be a better option?

You're welcome.

I can foresee you listing it & nobody going for the bundle because of the recent price drop in the Elite & the oodles of incentive deals with games & pads thrown in.

I expect you'll have a few members asking you to split the deal because they want one or two of your games, or the extra pad, and you'll then end up with a 'bare' console.

Hence, I suggest you take it into GAME (or ring them up) [or CEx, if you have a local branch] to get a price on it then you know what the lowest price is you can expect to achieve.

If the price they offer you is, to you, a good deal, then you've saved yourself time/hassle here.

Sorry, I did not infer from this thread that anything had been listed before, Adam.

In that case, if you do want a quick turn-around, hassony, I would try the trade-in route.

Give Game, Gamestation, & CEx a call... you may be lucky this afternoon.

(With Game ask about how much the console would be worth as a trade-in on a new, or pre-owned, PS3).

BFN,

...or wait for 250Gb PS3 Slim to be announced/released...

Serious question (not looking to start a fanboy war)... I have some (OK...a lot of) GAME Reward Card points burning a hole in my wallet, & have been giving the Xbox 360 Elite serious thought.

I almost bought the Limited Edition Resident Evil 5 edition, but then couldn't find any game titles I wanted to play on the '360 (that I didn't already own for the PS3).

Why do you guys (above) rate the '360 above the PS3 (if you do have first-hand experience of the Sony console, rather than just saying Microsoft is best because you own one).

Thank you for your subjective & objective views.

Because the xbox dashboard is so much nicer than the bland ps3 one, along with the market place.

I have cod4 on both systems, and when ever playing it on the ps3, connection is always a issue.

The ps3 controller is extremely uncomfortable compared to the xbox, i mean the analogue sticks are too close together, and there are no triggers.

The ps3 does not have cross game chat, where as the 360 does.

And over all the xboxs online experience is alot better thought out, it's the little things such as nicer menu's and colours, and less cluttered messaging etc.
#24
ive got an elite and a ps3, the xbox is farrrrrrrrrr better online, every crossplatform game runs/looks better on the 360.

The ps3 is a better media system and of course its free online but id only buy it for the exclusives, as far as exclusives go the ps3 has the edge imo with drakes fortune, valkyria chronicles, demons souls, but the 360 is the way to go.
#25
i reccomend you go for the ps3 every time

The game exclusives GOW, Halo etc., much better online experience, tho you have to pay, the controller is just more comfortable, more sturdy and the buttons are better layed out.

PS3 only sells so well due the blu ray player

I have both consoles but play the 360 more, I prefer its ease of use online but then you have to pay for that. Personally I prefer playing multi plat games on the 360 as to me they seem torun better and at a smoother frame rate with the added bonus that most of my friends have the 360 version..

That being said when a game has been made solely for the ps3 the results can be terrific, in my opinion Uncharted blows anything the 360 has to offer out of the water. My ps3 seems more reliable than the 360 and is a great media hub.

If you love your gaming then get both if you can afford it as both have a lot to offer in their own right and tbh competition can only be a good thing for the industry

Not even "Gears of War 2"?

I always considered this franchise to just be "Unreal Tournament III" with extra cow bells, whistles, & jazz hands.

Have you played "Killzone 2", Flodd? If so, do you rate "Gears of War" above it?

I appreciate your reply & all the reasons, but as I rarely have connection issues on my PS3 (well, ever since I ditched the appalling Belkin router), and I just want a system to play games on, the "dashboard" colours & in-game chat options are wasted on me. The PS3 "Messaging" to me is adequate for what I need it for too.

If I understand your positives for the Xbox 360 correctly, it is just the lead-up to playing & the support during the game that you favour; not necessarily the consoles selection of games.

...You see it as a central messaging/communication centre for your (virtual) friends.

Is that a fair assumption?

I didn't buy my PS3 for the integral Blu-ray player; albeit a welcome addition, but my Sony laptop has a Blu-ray drive on-board anyway.

I don't mind the PS3 SIXAXIS controller. The DUALSHOCK 3 I find too heavy after an hour of playing, but having used the PS2, & original PlayStation DualShock controllers prior to the PS3 I find the Xbox (and GameCube) controller bulky to hold.

The layout of the buttons is alien if you are not familiar with the platform, but after a while you learn where everything is.

I'm not saying I couldn't grow to like the Xbox 360 controller. It is just that I have nothing to complain about the PS3 variants.

...I think we're getting to the real debate though...

...Which console has the most desirable "Exclusives" & which has the more visually-appealing multi-platform titles. I often read that the Xbox 360 seems to be the more favourable choice; "Assassin's Creed" & "Alone In The Dark" being the two titles that come to mind initially where I have seen pretty damning comparisons with the PS3 counterparts.

Unfortunately the responses to "which are the better games" can only ever be subjective; but that's OK... it just means you are passionate about a particular gaming genre or particular title.

Although first person shooter titles are one of my (if not, my single) favourite genre, I personally tried "Halo 3" & did not like it. & I am also not a fan of "SOCOM: (U.S. Navy SEALs) Confrontation".

Both franchises have a good track-record on each of the manufacturer's previous consoles but, for me, they do very little.

"Black", for instance, was my favourite 'shooter' on the PS2. It may well be graphically superior on the Microsoft platform, or it may not be, but I was very happy with it at the time based on the actual game-play, regardless of which console it was played upon.

I find that some of the current generation titles do not come anywhere near the level of detail & perceived realism that the title offered.

("Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition)" I favour over the PS2 version, too, purely on the strength of the input devices. But if we bring the Wii into the equation we are likely to dilate the discussions).

In summary, a games console has got to be about the gaming experience. The addition of chat channels, &/or industry leading High Definition media video support, for example, is not why I play video games.

Yes, I welcome free online gaming, more than I thought I would when I bought my PS3 as playing co-operatively or competitively with/against people I’ve never met nor cared about was not a concern… until I tried it.

I think it is this issue alone that is holding back my purchase of the Xbox 360 console.

I am happy with my current online gaming experience, but maybe a fear of the unknown in that I don’t know what I’m missing.

It doesn’t bother me that I cannot chat to anybody else whilst I’m playing, although when playing clan matches in “Killzone 2” it becomes vital over time to communication with your team members.

But when I’m playing “Call of Duty: World at War”, for instance, I don’t want one of my friends randomly buzzing me about some unrelated topic in “Banjo Kazooie..” (or whatever) that takes me away from the game I was enjoying up until the interruption.

Please convince me on cross-game chat. I just don’t see the advantage(s)…

(I’m one of the people who never did understand, and still continues to not see, the need for “PlayStation Home” either)

Actually FP as a gaming experience I would rate Gears Of War over Killzone but it's a difficult comparison, GOW being 3rd Person and KZ being your preferred first person and I'd have to concede that Killzone is the best exclusive FPS on any current gen console.

I'm much the same as you in that the xmb or dashboard doesn't make a jot of difference to me and as you know I never play a game online so in game chat is a pointless inclusion for me.

EDIT : And on the subject of controllers I'm more versed to the dualshock so I always have difficulty remembering which button the on xbox pad is x or y or which ones yellow/red/etc... gets me killed far more often than you'd care to consider!

I think you have stated something I've mentioned before. (Apologies to all who have seen me quote other aspects of this long thread before)

The only issue I have with buying both is then I have yet another drain on my limited income. The initial outlay of a console is just a one-off cost. It is the upkeep & running costs in terms of accessories & games where the vast amount of money is spent.

Thing is, if I never buy an Xbox 360 I'll never know....

Thank you all for your comments. I seem to have taken over this thread.

I'm with you on the controller buttons. Whenever I hook up a GameCube controller to my Wii I struggle to find the right button at the right time. The games (e.g. "Mario Kart Wii") make it really simple for young kids too... and I can't cope. Perhaps a sign of getting to be a veteran gamer (at last) :)

Hmmm... so I have a vote of "Gears of War" as an incentive to buy a '360.

I used to want one because of the existence of "Ninja Gaiden II", but I couldn't justify the expensive for just one title (even though I bought a Nintendo GameCube just to play "Donkey Konga" ... and it collects dust now after less than 20 hours game-play; so I'm keen not to repeat a similar purchasing pitfall).

Now that "Ninja Gaiden Sigma II" is being released for the PS3 (with no blood/gore effects, but with additional characters/content) I've lost the inclination to play it at all.

Maybe I need to source a list of Xbox 360 'Exclusive' titles to see if I can be tempted.

Of course, I could get "Gears of War" PC version (but I don't need an excuse to buy a gaming PC either)! :)

You could add Ninja Gaiden II to this thread for me as that's been unopened since day of release...

Back on thread, I can't play FIFA on 360 cause of the earlier button confusion so If I could only pick one console to play FIFA on it would be the PS3, same for Pro Evo...
#39
I have all 3 'next gen' consoles and I would have to say that both the 360 and the PS3 are great consoles

PS3 Advantages
The online is free.
A lot more games run dedicated servers so it is not nearly as much of a lag fest as the 360.
Wireless built in.
BBC iPlayer is a nice bonus along with an internet browser.
It is quiet.
Blu-Ray player

However fighting in the 360 corner
Its cheaper for a basic system.
It is flashable to enable backups to be played on it :) (Which IMO makes it the better console :))
The controller is far better than a PS3 pad.
The online community side is far better (Xbox live is massively more advanced than PSN).
Multiformat games generally look better on the 360.

However the cons are that I think the PS3 pad is poo and its a shame that the PS3 community is years behind xbox live with very basic chat support and the like (do not underestimate the joys of skanking yank kids over the microphone as your team rip them apart in Gears of War!). Its stupid that the 360 requires a wireless adapter to be bought for wireless online play, it sounds like a hoover and you have to pay for online.

Ideally you want both (forget a Wii as they are about as Next Gen as my old polaroid camera). If you're looking at playing with friends online, just go with the console they are all choosing. Whichever one you get you won't be disappointed.
#40
My advice is NEVER ask for advice over the internet when it comes to buying PS3 or 360 game consoles...

Go out to the shops, friends etc and demo them for yourself (Especially test out internet stabilty over time when comparing the two systems).........
