It's fantastic, my two loved it (they're nearly six and four now, but have been once/twice a year for the last three years) .

Try and get there for when the park opens, rather than when the rides open (think it opens an hour before) as it'll give your kids chance to have a look around at first while it's a bit quieter - there are models of the trains around the outside of the harold the helicopter ride, so it's a good time to take photo's etc.

Also try and go on the Thomas / Percy train ride first, as the queues for that get really long really fast (and from the few times I've been, stay like it all day). Then do the troublesome trucks ride, as that gets very busy too. The rest of the rides you'll have to queue for, but they move down quite fast.

Only ever been on a BH once, but that was before Thomas Land opened, but imagine it's going to be rammed especially if the weather is nice.

The best two rides for your five year old in Thomas Land will be the Troublesome Trucks, Bulstrode and Cranky The Crane....but then there are also things like the Buffalo in the main part of the park which I'm sure he'll love

It is fantastic. Never been on a bank holiday though. If you live local it may be worth doing this http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/368132/theme-park-deal-alton-towers-drayto/ as it can be quite expensive.
