If anyone out there has been 'offered' an alternative to Grand Memories Cuba by Thomson tell them to 'Forget It' and demand a refund.

They tried to tell me that I had to accept an alternative holiday even though they sold us a lemon on the grounds that the complex was a new build/re-furb to luxury standards.

Transpires that the new build/re-furb was in fact a new concept called the Sanctuary and costs a lot more money. They sent me an email advising that their original marketing for the Grand Memories was incorrect but could be rectified if we paid an additional £745.00. If this was not an option they offered to change our hotel but we would have to absorb any additional cost.

Anyway to cut a long story very short, they have to give you a refund! We just got one so thought we would let you know! Any queries send me a msg.

I was looking at this exact hotel for July! What rubbish customer service, their mistake should be their responsibility!

Package Holidays are for the weak.

Book flights then book hotels from Expedia or similar sites.

Not sure why people pay a premium to a third party for nothing.

Quite often cheaper in my experience. Also better protection,on site representative, accountability. Plenty of reasons. I've done both ways

most of the cuban hotels are block booked by the tour ops and trying to book independently (I know ive just done it a few months ago) is a costly way to go.
hotels in havana average £500 per night and in varadero and other areas similar for the 4/5*s
packages can be a lot less

Thompson always try to get you to pay for any changes in the price of a holiday. A few years ago we were booked to fly from Birmingham. We received a letter from them stating this flight had been cancelled and we would now be flying from Manchester and it would cost an extra £100 per person. Went into our local Thompson/First Choice Store and the extra cost was wavied.
