I don't want to get female type stupid quotes. So how much should I be looking at.

i paid £215 inc vat for the one on my seat ibiza diesel from a local independent garage,dealers would charge a fair bit more though.
if you get quoted between £200 and £250 i would think that's reasonable but it does vary from car to car so that's only a guide price.

Yes it's a expensive job & you are looking at around anything from £160 to £220.Scotland maybe cheaper :-)

Timing belts the cam belt right?

Get them to change the water pump also while they are there if this is the case as they are prone to the same life span as the belt.

Yep worth getting water pump as well, should not cost any extra labour just part price which is around £30-£40

Just had cambelt & water pump done on my 54 Vectra CDTI and it was £220

I thought i got a good price for that at £305.00 at main dealers.
But your price is fantastic.

yours is a decent price, remember that's main dealer prices your paying.

I paid over 300 for my car from a specialist. its worth letting the mechanic know that he should get get a timing belt kit to include the pully tensioner and idler. Water pumps are relatively inexpensive and so they should be changed at the same time to avoid problems. I wouldnt worry about getting genuine water pump but make sure the belt is genuine in case of failure. I havent known of any cases but its worth having the peace of mind.

i had mine done on my 1.6 megane scenic, the most i was quoted was £260 the least was £130 but that was a friend who did it

Got mine done at Halfords Autocentre, think they quoted for a petrol as most places wanted £300+ for the diesel, they honoured the price tho so didnt make anything of it

Just checked the paperwork it was actually £211 i paid , that was the full kit, tensioners pulleys etc and water pump

make sure they fit a cam belt kit not just a belt,as the ones that have failed, its been the cam followers that have broken (liitle plasic or aliminium wheels)and not the belt thats snapped

yep best off getting the belt, tensioner and water pump done at the same time. ive heard of loads of these meganes snapping the belts early!
