I like to leave a tip if the service is good, but I just realised that have no cash in my wallet (well I do have 32p lol) and if I get some out at the ATM then the minimum will be a £10 note, which I'm not willing to leave for a meal worth £50-ish.
How bad/acceptable would it to leave a £5 love2shop voucher, it's like a gift voucher you can spend at Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser, JJB and loads more.

Won't hurt to leave it - but if they split the tips it might cause problems.

Most places do split tips at the end of the night so would not be too clever
#3
You are joking right ?

there's money saving and then there's just being cheap.

honestly just go to the cash machine and get some cash/change.

I wish ATMs gave out £5 notes as well.
I used all my coins to get some passport photos and the notes i have just found are £10 or £20, I've also got some Euros but I think that's a step too far lol.

cant you get someone to change your £10 note - buy a packet of polo mints!!

It's certainly better than leaving nothing. If you get chatty with your waiter towards the end, you can just apologise and say you brought no cash at all, but would you like this... etc. Chances are they will decline anyway, and your parents will tip instead. Alternatively just tell your folks you're out of change can they tip and you'll repay them.

Shops will be closed.

Ok, maybe it was a crap idea.
Though not sure I'm going to be leaving £10 tip for a £40 - £50 meal, I'll have to think up something else.

If I was your waiter I would think you were taking the **** personally!

Ok I get your point but I'm not sure what else to do though!
Can I ask them to swap a £10 at the restaurant?

Yeah, you could do it and they'll give you a glass of lemonade/coke and about £8 - £9 in change for the tenner.

Problem solved.

Yes, why not? :) Knowing that is probably for a tip i can't see why they wouldn't. If they don't then they don't deserve a tip! :D

Start searching down side of the sofa for some loose change!!

Couple of years ago my husbands very old uncle took us out for a pub lunch and omg he left TWENTY PENCE tip oO I was completely MORTIFIED. I didnt want to offend him by putting more down as he obviously thought that 20p was acceptable - but I phoned the place the first chance I got to explain he is so old fashioned and fact he left something was an indication he thoroughly enjoyed his meal! Never been back!!

I guess I'll do that then, I'm not very lateral thinking at times!

It was just an idea, not meaning to be cheap or anything, if I was being cheap I wouldn't be leaving a tip!

Where I live all the shops close at 5pm on the dot. Won't be passing any petrol garages, or supermarkets (which incidentally closes at 7pm) but have decided to ask if they can make change from a note, so problem solved.

I only just woke up - long sleep, meal in a short while, going to have another nap, brain not working, HUKD to the rescue, I feel like an idiot, not meaning to be cheapo, hanging head in shame, problem sorted by someone with head screwed on = this thread.

I've seen worse questions than this.
I'm going to get dressed, do my hair and slap on some make up, shuffle downstairs and have a nice meal out.
