Good hotel just off of Oxford Street here http://centrallondon.stgiles.com/default.aspx?pg=hotel

Stay there and you will be around Westminster (London Eye), Chinatown, Covent Garden, Picadilly Circus, Leicester Sq, Kensington (Harrods), Buckingham Palace, Camden and Soho.

Oyster Card is best for travel as its cheap and can also use it on the bus.
http://www.seetickets.com is good for buying tickets for shows but if you go to Leicester Sq (5 min walk from that hotel) the day before or morning of the show you will find plenty of street vendors selling cheap, genuine tickets. This is right around where most of the theatres are.

Are you travelling to London by train? 2 for 1 offer on the eye if you are. http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/london-eye
