I've just picked mine up, and on playing it seems to take an age to load each small section of land? Only on the first 5 mins of the game, picked up the horse, but each bit i move to freezes, the screen goes black and I wait for literally 30 seconds to a couple mins. The Wii keeps making 'dur dur click' noises too.

Every now and then the sound makes a massive hissing noise half scaring me and the neighbours to death, plus with all the dur dur clicking during loading the background songs skip/stop.

Is this normal? The game disc is clean and scratch free, I've tried the console on its side and flat, and its connected using the RGB cables into the front of the crt telly...

I'm worried that my new wii is busted! Just my luck!

It's because you've bought a 700mhz 512mb RAM Eye toy not capable of rendering the images in Zelda ;-)

Can you tell I'm not impressed by the Wii

Well on playing Wii Sports I'm getting none of these problems? Perhaps Zelda is just like this?

Btw, I've bought the Wii for its playability and fun, rather than its graphical superiority, and so far its pretty good fun on Wii Sports :) altho not that hard to master!

People are posting videos on YouTube of the Wii freezing up while playing both Zelda and Monkey Ball.

Sounds like the Wii is having trouble reading the disc i.e the clicking noises and how it takes so long to load up each part of the map...

I'd contact Wii Technical Support

Also probably worth a browse/post in http://forums.nintendo.com/. I had a quick look but couldn't see anything referring to the problems you've had.

Tempted, but seems fine with Wii Sports, so I'd hazard a guess either Zelda is a slow game to load, or the disc itself isnt right..hmmm, more playing needed methinks!

Here's another forum, looks like it's quite widespread

Google: Zelda Wii Freezing Issue
and you'll get loads more results unfortunately. Probably need to investigate getting a replacement in the new year.

Would explain the apparent stock shortages then; they've been holding wii's back cos some are defective....nice work

Its ok, I cleaned the disc for the third time, unplugged and replugged everything and now its working a treat :)

Now I just need to work out how to get the fishing rod to get the fish to give to the cat so I can get the cat back to its owner, so I can buy a slingshot off of her to shoot the monkey to get the cradle back from it to give to its owner! ARGH I cant figure it out!
