To go or not to go.....

I have a dilemma and need some friendly advice.

Here is the story, I am a 3rd year student on a five year course and I am getting married this summer. At the moment I am on easter holidays and am working in an office to earn some extra money, however at the end of this 6 week holiday my friend I want to walk the West Highland Way (it runs from Glasgow to Fort William in Scotland). This is something I have wanted to do for years but have never been able to due to University and work commitments.

Now here is the dilemma, with a weeding coming up, should I be finishing work a week early (missing out on a weeks wages) to go on a 5 day "holiday" with my mate from Uni or should I be working to make an extra weeks wages to help pay for wedding things?

do it, the opportunity is not likely to come up again

I think this is a question only you can answer, it depends which means the most to you?

Besides, you can always shop around for wedding bargains and then it wont be so bad moneywise!

Yeh just do it, you never know when you will get the chance to again!! you dont need laods of money to get married. just scrimp on some flowers somewhere along the line

without a doubt, finish work a wk early and go with your friend. It's something you want to do for years so I'd go for it.
I'm just assuming here, being a student and you got a job for extra cash,it probably doesn't pay all that well,so I assume you could be coming away with £170 or so,£170 isn't going go very far for a wedding. The way your talking ' wedding things' I guess you both wanting a big do so £170 or so isn't going make much difference.
Sometimes the most sensible thing isn't always the best thing to do for yourself in long run.
Go for it!

Hi

Personally I would do it before you get married, you could class it as a stag do!!!

My husband goes fishing alot and I am fine with this, but some ladies might not be keen if they have just got married and their husband wants to go away with their mate for 5 days.

Do it now, you only get one go at life, I have many I wished I done that moments!!!

Go for it love, let us know what you decide.

This is a nightmare lol, I am dying to do it, but at the same time there are things to pay for.

Don't get me wrong just about everything is paid for, however I still have to pay for the church and a few other things, including outfit hire etc.

I have all the equipment I need to do the walk and have borrowed the extra stuff, I reckon the whole thing would cost about £75 (food, and a train fare back to glasgow).... I just don't know aaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!

Just go,£75 is great value for 5 or so days and it be something you will tlak about in decades to come. You be able to take you own children on the walk someday and you be able to tell them all about it.

Life is to short to have regrets,
you can always put the extra time in work, after the wedding?

i say do it (if the mrs agrees lol)
Weddings really aren't that expensive if you don't want them to be mine was cheep as chips. Got married in a castle had a bbq in the grounds, bouncey castle and the evening do was at the local community centre it was £10 for the room and bar inc staff and we got a fiver back if we cleared up ourselves and decorated it ourselves. Cheeper bar prices ment we could offer a free bar 200 guests and it was less than £600 and that included 4 bottles of Tequila got an 11 piece blues brother style band. It's all about priorities don't waste the money on the small stuff i paid £20 for 2 small bunches of red roses and 3 button holes from a local florist. I had the whole big white wedding for less than 3 grand and it was every bit a grand event as a posh hotel 25 grand wedding and i had a toilet in a turret at the castle perfect shape for the dress lol

Sounds like an awesome night out.......

All the big stuff is done and dusted, the only things left at the moment are my wedding ring, paying for the church, and flights for the honeymoon.......

If you're in a real dilemma about it then why not try something to economise so you don't feel so bad about it? Although if you're getting married this summer I'm guessing you're doing that with most things already. What about selling a couple of old things you don't use anymore to make up some of the money, again this will relieve some of the pressure/guilt? At the end of the day £75 is not a lot for something memorable!

As others have said, heading off for a few days with your mate will probably be more difficult after you get married so go now and it will always be a really special holiday that you and your mate will value for a very long time.

Have you done the walk before? If not then I'd recommend the Clachaig Inn as a stopping point for decent food and a very good pint of beer! If you get good weather then the views from the beer garden are great! I'd also highly recommend walking up to the Lost Valley at Glencoe, it really is worth the climb!

Life is like a book - to stay at home is to read but one page

Save some time and drive it. That way you can still work the last week. Saves on some exercise as well.
Or is this defeating the point

Life is too short.... for goodness sake, do the walk and enjoy every minute of it, you may not get the chance to do it again.
I think everyone on here will agree with me, you deserve it after all your hard work. :)
