To PS3 or not to PS3.....

I am considering buying my husband a PS3 for Christmas but need a little advice first. Firstly, I have been looking at a 120GB slim version. Do any of you have any experience of them (I'm guessing "yes"!)
I am one of those people who like to read reviews before I buy but I can't really find many on this version.
So please help....bring it on!

The slim and fat ones will be exactly the same machine, apart from the obvious fact of the different sizes and design, different Gb and the slim is more energy efficient

I would say go for the cheapest deal

Well, thanks for the advice (and the massively sweeping generalisation!)

FYI I am actually technically minded one in our house - just didn't know about the PS3 launch cos I've had a bit of a life recently.

Why bother? you have been upgrade your HDD up to about 320Gb since the PS3 was first released

If he has any older PS1 or PS2 games, then search around for one of the original 60GB versions. I did, and do not regret it one bit.

Sorry guys...my little rant was aimed at Dimbars!!!

Thanks for the info y'all

until it breaks and is about 2 1/2 years out of warranty :whistling:

PS1 games work on the PS3 anyway, and it's cheap enough (and less of a risk) to but a dirt-cheap PS2 to play any of those games.

Because not everyone is technically minded, even if its a simple swap.

Will the PS2 games play on any of the PS3 machines? Why would I search for a 60GB version?

Only the discontinued 60GB version
This is the best model of PS3 due to PS2 compatibility, Multi memory card reader, Crome finish, and 4 USB ports rather than 2

point being there are some top releases due out around the same time and im sure getting closer to xmas and with several ps3 versions possibly still available if all 80gb stocks havnt dried up there should be sdome stonking deals from all the major retailers vying for that large £200+ wedge in the tillsand figures

No, they'll only play on the 60GB versions, but as they haven't made them for about two years now, the chance of finding one with an unused warranty is slim.

PS3 120GB is £249 - no games with that though. Reasonable in your opinions?

Very bad deal
If you search on here you can find one about £25 cheaper and with a few decent games

Depends what you want from the console.

If he wants one yes, if your buying it because its the first thing you thought of no.

1 other thing to remember (prob wont be an issue for you) but you can not install a Linux build onto the Slim, you can only install it to the phat (Any of the Phats). If you dont know what it is you def wont need it, but it is nice lol
