Rubbish. They have NOT sold ANY private data regarding any individuals. Just a non-news story with an over-excited headline.

It didnt say it had.

They have simply sold data that highlights where motorists are speeding and the Police have used it to their advantage.

That's my point. It's a non-story. They sold some info to the Dutch police showing where people were speeding. So? The Dutch police are now going to catch more criminals. This is a good thing yet portrayed as ANOTHER story about "our data" being "misused"

It's bad journalism

I suppose it it had said "personal drivers data", you would have had a good argument. I'll just re-read it and check.......

None. None whatsoever.
I switch my Tom Tom on, enter a postcode and drive. There is absolutely no way at all that they have any personal data on me whatsoever because there is no physical way of me giving it to them via my Tom Tom

so whats the problem with selling some data that doesn't relate to anyone and could be used to reduce people speeding?

None whatsoever imho (But then, I've not been making a song and dance about it)..... and as long as TomTom is updated with the position of the new cameras, all is cool. Obviously the owners of TT don't feel the same though, as they felt the need to apologise and promise not to do it again.

Just as well you never plug it into a PC for updates etc, oh wait...
They have admitted selling data that can be used to position where people are speeding, that info has to come from somewhere, do you know for a fact that position of fastest speed recorded by your gps isn't sent to them

Really??? You are mad.

Tom Tom do not have any personal data on me nor are they able to “capture” it whilst I am using their device. I bought the sat nav, charged it up and then use it as a sat nav. It is not connected to the internet and I have never entered any information such as my name, address, car reg etc etc….mainly because it doesn’t allow me to!

They are NOT tracking and collating specific personal data, all they will be holding is data such as “A car went Xmph on X road on X date” – they won’t know which car or who was driving it.

It’s just a sat-nav system, not Skynet!!

Has anyone even read the article ?

Europe's largest satellite navigation maker has apologised to customers for selling their data, which was then used by Dutch police to set speed traps.
