Too fat to fly

A Hollywood director was told to leave a plane as he was too fat to fit in the seat with the armrest down.

I think it's fair enough, nothing worse than being on a flight with someone who spills over onto your seat.

Not as bad as kids that kick the back of your seat though!

You'll spot me on a flight, I'm the guy who is always sat behind the person who reclines their seat first. It usually means I can't see the tv screen without slouching right down, which at 6ft3 is hard to do.

Haha, me 2 fat people should be banned unfair when i pay for my seat all of my seat.

My biggest pet hate when flying is children, as soon as I spot a child at check in my heart sinks.

Seeing as you cant check in children like baggage, I resort to the following for a peaceful flight:

1 Large G&T to wash down a valium tab and Bose noise cancelling headphones and or ipod/netbook

+2 and they don't even 'go upright' when the food arrives until the flight attendant tells them
and they have useless headphone thingies, so you get that stupid scratchy sound for the whole of the flight.

many airlines will this year introduce rules stating you must buy 2 seats in order to fly if you are too fat to fit in one-personally think its fair enough for safety reasons and also the comfort of other passengers.

the reason there will be a fuss over this one is that its kevin smith.

You should speak up Chesso and demand they respect your authority!

Can't say I'm that worried about kids on the plane or seats being used in their correct position during the flight. Personal Hygene is a bit of a bugbear. Nothing worse than sitting near a smelly passenger.

Silent Bob is a director now? [Edit: Just had a look on Wiki, never realised he always was a director, what a guy!]

What a guy. <3

The pilot should be ashamed of himself. IT'S SILENT BOB FOR GOODNESS SAKE!

The image contained in the linked article though is far from flattering though and well, he doesn't look great.

I ask the flight attendant, just in case the anti-social element kicks off!

I can't say I've encountred the smelly problem. I'm not keen on the snorer with the head (top of body!) flopping onto me when we're all in sleep mode on long hauls.

This director guy did seem to have been publicly humiliated though - a bit over the top.

Perhaps there should be a baby section Byker and DKLS - although saying that, I was next to a baby for a 12 (?) hour flight last year and the mum kept him quiet and happy the whole time.

pmsl u r so right

I agree that any "package" should pay for the appropriate space on a plane, I would not win slimmer of the year (am 15st) but do fit in the seat with no probs

it is strange tho how we are all getting less tolerent of out fellow man, i hate to admit it but i am the same, I would and have just suffered in silence on many filights but inside been seething lol

He posted it on his own twitter feed. TMZ picked up on it - he's a self-publicising overweighty who hasn't made a good film for a fair while.

Miffs me RIGHT off, especially when your 6ft and have had deep vein thrombrosis in the past. My husband just sits there all squashed up, i ask them to put the seat back up lol! I wouldn't do it to the person behind, so why should i suffer?

I am 6'1 and never put my seat back i think it is rude and unfair on the person behind

I always used to try to get the extra leg room seats, but babies arn't allowed in them. So either i leave my hubby cramped up like a sardine on his own with a baby, or i sit there and go through the motions with him. I soon tell them, as soon as it goes down, i'm there tapping the shoulder :)

I'll raise my hand and admit I do recline my seat. However I'm not one of those rude types who puts it as far back as possible - merely to a semi-comfortable slouch (although slightly further if the so and so in front has put it back to the point where a sneeze would cause me to sufffer a concussion due to the colission with their headrest)

*Edit* 6 ft here.

What about tall people (in this case it's usually males who do it) who sit with their legs spread out on either side thereby taking up some of the space which I have paid for? Surely they should be forced to pay for another seat, in much the same way larger people are told to?

I'm also guilty of this, but it's not my fault the seats are so sodding close together... The back of the chair in front isn't very comfortable to rest your knees against for any period of time.

Should definetely have to pay for two seats, imagine being stuck next to him for 8 hours!

Now apply this argument to the original post. If you want you can substitute the word "small" for "so sodding close together".

People can't help how tall they are.

"They" can't help how small they are either, but don't hold it against me.

I can't wait until it is socially acceptable to call somebody fat.

I'd be quite happy to - Discuss Mallrats and Dogma for a while, then when I get tired, I'd have a big comfy pillow to sleep on :D

Says you, HUKD male gigilo!! Its impossible to close your legs, when the magazine rack on the back of the seat is forcing them apart! I'd be more comfortable sitting on the headrest, at least my legs will be in a normal position and not wrapped round the persons in front chair!

Agreed. I actually find my knees digging into the back of the armrests of the chair in front when on the plane (now that I've thought about it). Very uncomfortable, but that's because I'm considerate and don't invade everyone elses space :D

I rock.

If I was on a plane with you, I would invite you to 1st class, let you sit on my lap, and we could talk about the first thing that pops up.

Why? What difference does it make?

Just be like one of the sheep (or cows) and mock away if it makes you feel good about youself. But remember, it might hurt if they choose to sit on you.

I would happily pay extra to sit next to him. Have you seen his "Evening with" shows, he's hilarious! He also loves nothing better than to gossip about the stars so you'd find out all sorts of juicy stuff.

I'm a big fan, I know he's not to everyone's taste and I know a lot of fans don't like his recent stuff but I'm loyal to the man ever since Clerks came out on VHS here.
