i went to the dentist a month ago to get my silver filling changed to a white one, then my problems started, i was told that i need root canal treatment as it had become infected, this waws done on thursday and i still have toothache on the same tooth. i thought that you couldnt get pain in a tooth that had been root canal as there is no nerve left.,.... anyone got any ideas?

thanks

Gosh poor you Louise.

I hope you feel more comfortable soon.

Even though you've had the nerve removed you're prolly feeling pain from the nerves close by... root canal is always awful in my experience.

I so hope you feel better soon xx

Call and ask them to have a quick look, even if it is just to put your mind at ease.

When I was little the dentist did a bad job on a filling, which caused an infection. Had to go to hospital for a week, where they cut into my jaw/throat from underneath to drain the puss that had accumulated.

Better safe than sorry.

I have had two root canals done and they were both fine after-no pain. The dentist told me that there won't be any pain cos there's no nerve.i would get this checked out asap even if only to put your mind at rest. But you shouldn't be going through that much pain.Maybe if you call the out of hours doctor they could give you something?Best wishes.x:thumbsup:

Did you get it done in a molar? My dentist told me that I could have a white filling but they aren't as good and don't last as long.So decided against it.Bad enough going through it once, never mind twice!

this is like deja vu - i am up because i had root canel treatment yesterday and have been in agony since ! I am doing paracetamol 4 hourly & ibruprofen at the 2 hour bit inbetween - went back to the emergency clinic today & they gave me antibiotics and said if still sore monday to go back to my dentist - i'll be jumping out of a window by then ! I've tried ice packs - but nothing really helps oes it - its not too bad at the moment - until the tablets wear off again - my sympathies are with you !

Apparently its not uncommon - i didn't even have toothache before - they just said i needed it doing from an x ray !

Poor you! It was actually having to have 2 root canals that cured my fear of dentists! The pain was so bad, as some one said, I would rather give birth again than go through that.......So I was that desperate for relief that if the dentist had said please sit down while I knock you out with 2 bricks, I would of said be quick!

I suffered no after pains, but the dentist did mention to me that tooth pain is odd, in that it travels. The pain may be coming from another tooth. Take some pain killers, and get it checked out. Goodluck.
