Top 10 Road Rage Causes......

Just been reading the fog light thread & thought I'd post a few things myself that other drivers do, that really p*** me off !!!

1. Why cant people stay in lane on a roundabout ?

2. Why do people stop at a roundabout when they can clearly see nothing is coming from the right ?

3.Why can't people understand mini roundabouts - its the same damn concept, but a smaller roundabout !

4. Why do people do 40mph on a National Speed limit road, then carry on at exactly the same speed when they get into a 30mph limit. It's a variable limit, not stick to one speed all journey.

5. Why do people not use slip roads to gain speed before joining a motorway ? They join it at 40mph, and flash you if you overtake them on the slip road to get upto 70mph before joining the main carriageway.

6. Why do people sit in the middle or outside lane of the motorway if the lane to thier left is empty ? You get done then if you undertake them in the inside (empty) lane !

7.Mobile Phones. If you havent got a handsfree kit or Bluetooth - DONT USE ONE when driving. You cant concentrate & will drive like a t***

8. Why do people brake on the motorway (unless coming to a stop or in an emergency situation) ? Take foot off accellerator & car will slow down !!

9. Why do people love using fog lights on the motorway, especially rear fog lights when it's raining, meaning the car behind gets blinded !

10. Why do trucks/HGV's insist on overtaking each other when on a slight incline hill of a duel carriageway ? It takes about 5 miles for them to complete the manoeuvre.

Anything else that gets people fired up ?

Slow Drivers. - Stick to left lane. And people who don’t let you come into lane because you forgot it was your exit.
#3
I agree with all your examples but especially number 2.

Badly situated bus stops on main through roads

Bus drivers sat at a stop for 5mins after no one got off and no one got on.

OOoh, no I LOVE tailgaters. I slow down so much it frustrates the children in MY car! If they want to see what's in my boot, I'll help them in.

Irritating, but to be fair they generally have a timetable to stick to - so if they are ahead of time, its thier job to wait....

lol I do that too....but the fact you react surely means it annoys you...?

My aunt once stopped her car (so the car behind had to stop too) got out and looked at the back bumper.....the other driver got out and said I havent touched you (so you can tell how close they were!!!) she replied, oh no, I was just lookin for the tow rope :giggle:

Yeah some driver did this to me too, but then they were doing 30 on a country lane so deserved it. Being such a pro driver myself I reacted with steal and dodged round her leaving her in my dirt cloud. 2 miles down the road and they were still stopped in the middle of the road over a hump back bridge, was waiting for someone to actually go into the back of them.

That happened to me last Sunday !

I was behind a bus who stopped at a Bus Stop, but stayed there for 5 mins - I couldnt overtake either as it was on a small road, and someone had parked on the other side of the road !!

Can't they wait in a layby somewhere else? :)

I think they are meant to wait at specific stops on their route, not sure though. Guess its just as much the road planners/council at fault though, they should make sure there is space to overtake...
#12
It's got to be, you're waiting to join a roundabout and someone exits but didn't signal to come off, so you could have gone ages ago argh!

Slow drivers and people who don't indicate - both indicative of thick people who don't anticipate the road ahead.

If you find yourself attracting more tailgaters that normal (e.g. someone not driving a BMW/Audi) then maybe you're driving too slow:thumbsup:

Is has to last minute queue jumpers for me, I've sat in a queue for 5 minutes because the sign tells me the 2 lanes are merging then Mr Flash comes down the empty lane and buts in. I don't know what makes me angry the most the guy coming down or the idiot who lets him in.
#16
It makes me sad that lots of people have spent lots of money on their cars (pointedly at all the BMW drivers) and couldn't afford to buy indicators. If you spend £35,000+ on a car you would think you would get working indicators. My cheap Nissan comes with free, WORKING indicators.... such a shame.

Are you angry because you didn't think of it?

My view is that if you're happy to wait and queue like a good Englishman, then you clearly aren't in a rush to get somewhere.

I unfortunately would love to queue but don't have the time. If I did though, I'd let in a fellow queue-jumper because I recognise he probably has somewhere to be too:thumbsup:

I am angry because I have manners where others haven't, if there is a big queue at the shop do you jump in then? , no is the answer and what is the difference between the two situations?
#20
hmm merge means just that, it doesnt mean all sit in 1 lane, it means merge, as in 2 lanes into 1...right down to where the two merge. If it said all get in one lane now i would understand your point, but it doesnt, it says merge!
#21
also anyone moaning about tailgaiters, in roads with more than one lane, look to your left, no one there, move lanes, simple, most tailgaiting is done cos people are sitting in the wrong lanes!

If someone lets me in then I'm not going to decline - I also let others in as I said.

Like I said, if people are happy to queue then I'm all for that. But I have places to be.

So when you are in the supermarket do you go to the front of the queue and try to push your way in.....no, thought not. You queue up like everyone else. On the road people are so brave behind their wheels aren't they?

People who dont indicate
People who queue jump instead of lining up. (Though I do enjoy making sure they dont get between my car and the one in front.)
People who hog the fast lane whilst driving too slow, particularly when the slow lane is empty
Boy racers
Tail gaters
Women drivers powdering their noses
People using the phone - particularly at Junctions and places full concentration is a must.
Drivers under the influence of alchohol or drugs
Drivers with Arsenal stickers in the rear wndow
People that dither
Bad parking
Jumping traffic lights

That should do for now.

Oh forgot one....

People that drive imaginary cars.

I've been known to ask if I can jump ahead if I'm in a rush.

But I get my shopping delivered and only go to supermarkets when it's quiet so I don't often need to queue.

No, you head straight for the shortest queue.......just like they guys on lane merges

A lane merge is supposed to be two lanes joining into one, the correct way to do it it like a zip i.e. filter in from alternate sides. It's not supposed to be one long queue, they're not pushing in they're using the road properly.

1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 are the worst ones imho.

I'm told there is a reason for 10, apparently depending on loads, engine size etc. they have to keep up certain speeds otherwise they lose momentum up hill and slow down, or even risk stopping on steep hills. Not sure how true that is as I've never driven a truck myself, but that's what I'm told. Still annoying as hell if you're behind one though!

Also 8. I can see good reason for, it lights up your break lights so the idiot behind that thinks 3ft is a safe stopping distance knows you're slowing down.

No " fast " or " slow " lanes, they are all driving lanes.

2nd 3rd etc. lanes are overtaking lanes.

+1 They should only be used for overtaking, about time that started to be enforced

Has it changed?

Certainly on a motorway, Lane 2 was called the fast lane and lane three overtaking. Stands to reason lane 1 would be slow (though I'm not sayin was an offficial name - but am the other two!)

Heavy traffic like that is a different situation, I'm talking about when the slow drivers hog the overtaking lanes backing up everyone behind them or worse causing undertaking to occur as per point 6 in the op.

I guess i should have made it clear I live in London and heavy traffic is all I know!

i think you'll find I have that one covered:

It has always been that way.

Which lane would you drive in at 70mph on an empty Motorway? ( say at 0300 hours ).

Middle one. It's empty so I want the best view of the road as possible. Plus it's not like I'm inconveniencing anyone.

Nope, there is no " fast " or " slow " lanes, I challenge anyone to find mention of them in the Highway Code .
