5. Nose Stretcher
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj176/kipper1105/japanese_nose_stretcher.jpg
Just clip this on your nose for a couple minutes per week and it will start stretching the cartilage to a desired size. It's available now from Rakuten for just $6.94 USD.
"A flat little nose is a common feature among Japanese women. But that all changed with this nose lengthening device" Source

4. Bandai Cat Paws

It's like having an extra hand on your keychain. The "Neko Nyanbou" by Bandai are artifical cat paws operated with a small handle. You can use it to scratch your back, shake someones hand, or even as a good luck charm?
"Why on earth would you use these? To scratch your back, to scare a colleague or just as an extension of your arm... " Source

3. Neck Stretcher

Simply place around the neck and than use the handpump to send air rushing through the tube. You're supposed to feel a nice "refreshing sensation" as the pressure slowly stretches the back of your neck. Source

Here we go. Another "Japan is strange" discourse. We simply show our ignorance of cultural difference and lack of complex thinking everytime we play this game. Hope you enjoy it.

2. Slim Mouth Piece
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj176/kipper1105/slim_mouth_piece.jpg
This weird Japanese gadget is supposed to tone your face by expanding and contracting flaccid facial muscles. According to the manufacturer, it takes only 2-3 minutes of exercises per day to "sharpen your features". It comes in medium/hard spring tensions and is priced at $9.50 USD.

"Well, the theory is that if you widen your mouth, you will have the appearance of a small face, so prized by the Japanese. Source

1. Face Slimmer
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj176/kipper1105/face_slimmer.jpg
This crazy product not only makes you look like something from a horror movie, but slims your face using contact pressure and doubles as a sauna to sweat the fat away. Source

maybe so, but you have to understand that a "Japan is strange" discourse exists and that you play into it with the way you construct your OP. The "respect" would most likely have remained opaque unless I had resisted your discourse. Glad you do feel that respect though, and that my post brought it out. Btw, I have also lived in Japan - for seven years, in fact - and have a personal and professional interest in pointing out potentially racist discourses where I find them - not just limited to Japan. You'll find I do so quite often on this forum for example. And I agree that Japan is an interesting place (my preferred adjective!).

Face slimmer is Hannibal in disguise :)

I love the fact they have Beer machines, so any one of any age can take one

For crying out loud give it a rest! The op was simply showing daft contraptions that incidentally come from Japan. Does it matter if they come from Japan or chuffin America? No so chill out

I found the post interesting & funny and taken in the spirit it was posted and I'm sure some of the Japanese people find these gadgets fun too, just like some of the English rubbish gadgets we've got doesn't mean we all buy them.

I am sure the Japanese are more than capable to express what they think, and have a great sense of humour. However to put things into perspective here, I'd like for the record, maintain that the respect i have for the people was not a result of your statement (as you seem to suggest) and i certainly do not feel like i have to justify my respect for them to you or anyone else either. Try not to be so uptight ... live a little, it is still the same 5 naff inventions that happen to be made in Japan. Should someone start one on the 5 strangest British inventions to even things up? And one for the Scots, the Welsh, etc? Would that really really gain 'respect' globally? Personally I think it's all just PC gone unreal that we cant even be honest with ourselves and express some childlike wonder at some of the fabulous (but still naff) inventions that turn up.

Peace  over and out.
