Torrent completion question

I'm downloading a torrent which is 28.60GB in size. I've apparently downloaded 22.92GB but I'm only 70.1% completed. Maybe I'm being dim but doesn't that mean I should be 80.1% completed? What happened to 2.8GB worth of data?

Hey,

When you d/l a file using torrents the program goes off and finds the data that you need.. somtimes it brings back data that it already has. When this happends the data is then discarded.

So yeah it will say that the file is 1gig and it might say that uve downloaded 2gigs, etc..
dont worries this is normal.

If you check the details on the torrent it should say somewhere that xxx megs has been discarded.

ok thanks :)

why is it going so slow though? there's loads of seeds and according to the "details" bit, the average swarm speed is 100kbps and mine's about 5 at the minute

Because the torrent is screwed? Could only be junk data available :(

You need to have the correct ports forwarded and be using an ISP that doesn't throttle or traffic shape...

there are some sites from which I download and I get 250kbps which is max for my current broadband speed so I think the settings are ok. also with this file, sometimes it shoots up to a good speed for a while and then it just drops right down again.......

Surely you are governed by what can be sent as well as what can be recieved.

Just because you can download at 250 it doesn't mean the person with the file can work at such speed.

If they 'can' work at 250 they may have 10 leechers making it 25 each.

Its probably due to hash fails and the like (google is your friend) Nothing to worry about.

Although now you say that
also with this file, sometimes it shoots up to a good speed for a while and then it just drops right down again...

This is often an indication that your speed settings in your client are wrong so I would adjust them maybe.

Your download rate is highly dependant on the number of seeders. Try to find torrents with more seeders tahn leechers for decent speeds

Hope it isn't corrupt after all that.

What file is 28gig?
